New speakers
Hey guys, I don't know much about the audio side of things in cars. Will getting new after market speakers but with the original head unit sound better or is it the head unit that's not fantastic? it's the basic unit with dab that I have and i'm jut not particularly impressed with the sound quality

Re: New speakers
What EQ settings do you use? I find trebble + 6 Mid + 1 and bass -1 or +1 depending on song to be quite good but doors could do with some sound insulation
Re: New speakers
I fitted new speakers (Focals) along with a Match DSP (wich also made adding a sub a breeze. Then tuned with a mic. Difference is unbelievable. Really easy to install too.

Which focals did you get fitted? Thinking of the same myself!rsmagee wrote:I fitted new speakers (Focals) along with a Match DSP (wich also made adding a sub a breeze. Then tuned with a mic. Difference is unbelievable. Really easy to install too.

This set. Did it myself, just drilled out the old ones. Very easy job overall.

Thanks for the info, what did you use for the rears? Or another set of the same? Cheersrsmagee wrote:http://www.focal.com/en/ded ... w.html

Haven't got round to the rears yet, its always a nightmare on a 3 door. Just used the DSP to tune them so they don't spoil the focals.

Re: New speakers
What's a dsp?
Re: New speakers
Ah must have been another thread. Im using a Match PP52DSP. It basically plugs into the stock headunit and lets you tune the sound properly and gives things like pre outs for a sub. YOu can use a mike to tune the output of the headunit to each speaker and the results are stunning!
The VW plug and play system uses a crippled version that you cant adjust manually.
This is the newer version. http://www.audiotec-fischer.de/lng/en/m ... 62dsp.html

Re: New speakers
Yowser! Expensive. Would I notice a benefit if I just went for the speakers for now?
Re: New speakers
Yes you will. THe stock speakers are pretty cheap paper jobbys. The DSP can be added later or ignored.

Re: New speakers
me again, do the focals you listed (IS 165 VW) literally fit in a 6R where the originals go? no modding the door panel etc?
