DSG Oil Change

Post by PoloBlueGT »

Morning all,
Just had VW on the phone regarding a DSG oil change. They have said the following:
1) The oil needs changing at 40k miles. My Blue GT has covered 40067 miles so it seems like a very convenient call or does it relay things like this to VW?
2) It will cost £184 + VAT which seems high to me?

Is this something I can do myself? If not I'm based in Manchester so if anyone know somewhere to get it done that'd be good too.
Any info/advice on these matters would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Just an update on this. I spoke to a VW specialist who took my reg etc and has told me that my car has the mechatronic gearbox unit which does not need an oil change as it has long life gearbox oil and that VW are touting for work. They also mentioned that this is on cars dating from 2012 but units before that had filters on.
Any additions to this would be great

Probably a little late for your needs, but for anyone else that has similar concerns or questions:

1) If you have car-snitc... sorry, Net ...car-Net active, it will relay your service requirements to VW.

2) The £184 + VAT VW quoted is relatively cheap compared to the £300 Audi tried to lift from me 3 years ago when my A3 needed its fluid changing. I found a VW\Audi specialist that did it for half price, he explained the process too. He said the oil needs to be cold when it's drained (they keep the car for the day when it's dropped off in the morning) so they could measure it out, and the new oil in, Precisely. Apparently these gearboxes don't take too kindly to being under or over filled, and a temperature difference means the volume will change when the new oil heats up.

There are Youtube video's showing how it's done.

Just a little update on this topic. I have had VW on the phone again today and they have confirmed after questioning that my 7 speed DSG box does not need an oil change and that they just ring up as it is an automated update that does not distinguish between gearboxes. Hope this helps anyone else who gets a phone call regarding it.
