Oops

Post by skymera »

Had a prang on the commute from work, went into the back of a Ford S-Max at a junction.

Apologies for the naff pics. My phone broke 2 days ago so I'm using a spare.

List of damage

- Passenger wing bent (The one with the crappy paint job from a prev VW approved repair!)
- Bonnet bent
- Foglight surround missing
- Lower grille broke
- Upper grille broken
- Passenger headlight chipped and scratched
- Passenger headlight fixtures all smashed
- Drivers wing pushed back
- Drivers A pillar scratched from wing
- Drivers headlight pushed behind wing
- Hole in the bumper
- Front parking sensors broken

The whole front end appears to have shifted about 1.5-2inches across, concerned something behind has bent?

Claim made on my insurance and it's being collected tomorrow :D

That's expensive...

PS, do you mean passenger side? Pretty sure the UK driver sits at the wrong side of the car. ;)

Everything shifted across from the impact and it's pushed the drivers headlight ever so slightly under the wing and pushed the wing back into the driver's A pillar.

Naughty Lichel, remember most of the pre war sports or quality cars were right hand drive, it's such a pity that much of the rest of the world subsequently made the wrong decision.

I know it was wrong because when I tried to drive into London a few days ago on the right hand side of the road it was very dangerous.

Tell me about it... Going to Australia at the end of the week and our rental Polo is also RHD. Got a confused look over the phone when I asked for a Polo with hba and kessy.

Car was collected this morning. It's being repaired by Admiral's "approved" garage, TST. Expecting a call this afternoon with a time estimate.

As a courtesy car I have a Corsa E 1.0 Turbo. Pretty naff and has an alarming clunking over speed humps but pulls surprisingly well.

Are you sure that it is a feature of the Corsa, or not down to the way loaner cars get driven?

I hope Admiral make sure everything is good as I'm an Admiral policy holder!

Damage estimate is back. Lets just say I'm glad I have insurance.

They're replacing the LED headlamp but the part they've listed is 6R2 941 039 , now if I'm not mistaken, this is a different model headlamp?
6C2 941 035 appears to be the correct one?

6R2 941 039
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fit-Polo-6R-1 ... 2561458799
6C2 941 035
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Vw-Po ... 1604845205

They're also going to attempt a repair of the wing. I'm questioning this.

They're also going to attempt a repair of "front bumper cover" whcih is assume is the foglight surround

6R2... Is the wrong number since that is the bi-xenon headlight

Excellent, thought so.

Question is now, how do I word it to say I don't want the wing / bumper cover repaired, but replaced?
This is on insurance so the cost is near meaningless to me. However, if the repair job is poor, I will refuse the work.

EDIT

I see they've listed the front bumper as 6R 807 221 which looks to be a GTi bumper, not R-Line?

No that's fine for the r-line bumper, but without front pdc. The facelift bumper with washers and PDC might have a different number.

Garage has phoned me , looks like I wont be seeing my car anytime soon.

VW can't provide a new condenser so it's on back order with no date  I'm not surprised, it took VW over a month to replace the EGR when the car was just 6 days old :P
