Retrofitting genuine VW bluetooth help needed

Post by jedi-knight83 »

Hi.

I used to have a MK5 Golf GTI which I successfully retrofitted MK6 clocks / bluetooth / head unit etc and it all worked perfectly.

I've sold that car now and my wife has a little 2013 Polo R-LIne.

I've fitted the RCD510 head unit and wanted to fit the 7P6 J bluetooth module so she can also stream music.

I bought the module and loom and am due to fit this week.... but I've suddenly realised she probably needs a highline speedo cluster as well??

Is this correct or is there any way to pair the phone without this?

If not... my next question... Does anyone have a highland petrol cluster for sale and can anyone code it for me :)

I think you'll be fine. I know a lot of folks that have RCD/RNS510 combined with Bluetooth and MFA no +.

Pairing is a bit more tricky but not impossible. I know a guy in Holland selling a GTI kph cluster for €250. For mph clusters, maybe ask jic_cracked.

Hi Jedi-knight83

As iichel 8) mentioned I have Highline MFA+ in MPH for sale on eBay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142426042873? ... 1555.l2649
or item number:142426042873

I can code the new cluster to your car without any issues, sync keys, mileage, service data etc, door selection 3 or 5.

Let me know if your interested, I try and do something better as your forum member :)
Send me a PM on here or send me your number via eBay 8)

You can buy a MFA+ and use it for syncing, and in combination with multi-button steering wheel or stalk use it to change tracks etc, but it is not necessary. I have the RCD-510 DAB in mine with lowline cluster with 9w7 bluetooth and it works just fine. You can use the normal radio controls on the left side of the steering wheel for track changes and answering phone calls etc, but I've never got my speech recognition to work, as it has to be specific modules with the headunit, and I failed to source any info on that. Not a big deal for me as it's pretty lousy anyway. You get the full phonebook on the RCD510 plus speed-dial etc

thanks for the replies.

I installed it tonight and sure enough you can connect the phone no problem just through the iPhone bluetooth menu.

Music streaming now works perfectly..

HOWEVER.

Bluetooth phone calls do not work properly. More specifically the microphone doesn't work. I can hear the caller through the speakers just fine but they cannot hear me. Not sure if its a faulty mic or if its the wrong loom / incorrectly wired?

Some symptoms:

The mic is not muted. When I click 'extras' on the screen when in a call I can mute the mic and I can hear on the other end of the call that the noise changes when you click mute, IE it goes completely silent and when I un mute there is a faint hiss back on the call (I called my other mobile so I could listen).

The wire from the mic goes to pins 1 and 7 on the green plug that goes into the back of the head unit, even though on the head unit wiring diagram on the head unit sticker these pins are not allocated for anything?

EDIT - It seems the mic should go to pins 1 and 7 and then it gets output to the bluetooth module from the head unit. So its looking more like it might be the microphone at fault?

Any help appreciated

Faulty mic should show up in diagnostic tool (i.e. vcds).
Does the speech command still work?

I think there are different looms actually and I potentially have the wrong one.

So I've got "9455635 - Telephone Microphone" fault

Cleared it and it keeps coming back.

So either the mic is faulty or its not seeing the mic (IE the loom is wrong?)

Like I've said, this has the 2 wires from the mic going directly to Pins 1 and 7 on the green plug into the back of the head unit.

Hi jedi-knight83

Did you ever solve this issue? I've recently tried fitting a 9w7 (5K0 035 730 B) but the microphone doesn't work, everything else does. On VCDS I get an "Open Circuit" error relating to the microphone. I've tried plugging the microphone into the back of the radio and also into the bluetooth unit, neither made it work.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Hi mate I've fitted a 9w7 module to an rcd510 on my polo and I get the same error. But the system still works fine and there are no issues.
