Interior Light Problem

Post by gaza1994 »

Hi guys,
Now, this is a very odd problem! and im going grey trying to figure it out!

I went to Halfords and noticed they had some interior LED bulbs (to swap for the halogens that are in the car) i though cool! lets buy some (£50 later, i walked out a happy man!)

Installed them in the car, all seems well, until my missus used the vanity mirror, bulb came on and ALL the lets went out (FUUUUU!)

I thought, hmm, lets swap the bulbs back to the Halogens that where in the car originally, still no light.

I then decided to check the fuse box - number 24 had blew - bought a fuse popped it in, still no lights!

What could i possibly be missing here?

Is there another fuse for the interior lights?

I'm guessing all the bulbs are on the same circuit (2x Vanity, center dome light and rear dome light?)

Please help :(

Sometimes locking the car, leaving it for an hour or so and re-open it, switch on ignition and see if it works again.

This is not the first time that someone has done that, well either on a Polo/Ibiza/Fabia, and found that replacing a single fuse did not sort things, I hope the suggestion iichel made works as I've forgotten what others had found fixed things - though some people never come back and say what fixed their problem!!

Tried the leaving the car, didn't work, tried disconnecting the battery didn't work!

HOWEVER!

I forgot I had VagCom (ohh how I love vagcom)
The bulbs seemed to have tripped a lot of stuff, so I reset the dtcs and half way through BAM light bulb(s) !

So, does this mean I simply can't have leds? Or do I you think it's just Halfords branded bulbs are sh*t?

NO, you can install LED bulbs on your 6R like everyone.
It simply means that it is extremely easy to make a short-circuit with certain LED bulbs due to not installing them with exquisite precision.

I guess that LED bulbs that are being sold in Halfords are not of poor quality. However, there is a UK website where they are specialists in this type of LEDs bulbs and many other models. https://www.hids-direct.co.uk/
I bought some light bulbs from them and I am very happy. :D

I also had this setback .... (2x guilty, big hands ).
I'm sorry to have read your post late to provide you the right solution. Yes, erase all DTCs with VCDS is the way to solve this problem once the 10A fuse is changed.

Btw, I like the way you tell us the events that happened ... :)

I'm sure i was careful installing them.
however, after some more research, these bulbs where not "canbus" safe (if thats a thing)

So, i think next time, some more research is to be done before buying random stuff haha!

I will check out HIDs Direct, im sure ive been on there site before!

The above link is the place that Audi owners go to as their first choice for buying LED equivalents to normal bulbs, I've never used them, but they do make sure that things work for VW Group cars.
