numberior´s 2011 Polo 6R GTI DSG

Post by numberior »

Hi everyone,

I open a new topic here to seek advice for mods.
The Polo is a fun car to drive and I derive satisfaction when I add new features by myself.

My stock equipment:
-Halogen headlamp
-cruise control

Mods thus far:
-tilting side mirror for parking by external module control
-folding mirrors by external module control
-LED tail lamp
-double-U projector headlamps with LED bulbs
-Boost gauge plug and play
-i-shift by EclipTech
-BMC OTA intake filter
-full exhaust system with APR stage 1 plus tuning
-in-badge RVC
-aftermarket radio built for Polo 6R
-Bilstein B12

I bought the Polo used. It seems ex-owner had someone done CH/LH mod using some external electronics.
The rotary light switch seems not stock and connects to a China made module. The other end of the module then connects to the stock connector.
It's not working anyway and they're a few wires hanging from the module disconnected.
I will be replacing the rotary switch with one that does not have fog lamp function, as I will be removing them.

Right now, I'm retrofitting xenon headlamps, and for the first time I'm doing it the OEM way, which is totally necessary to not affect others.
I have purchased from Kufatec:
1) xenon adaptors: https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/volkswag ... vw-polo-6r
2) Autoleveling kit: https://www.kufatec.de/shop/en/volkswag ... vw-polo-6r

I have purchased separately the following:
3) Xenon headlamps with cornering lamps
4) BCM Max p/n:7E0937090B
5) Ballasts for xenon headlamps

I have already received the Kufentec merchandise and have started installing the xenon adaptor kit.
BCM Max has not arrived yet.

I've read Ciclos's and iichel's posts before embarking on this project. therefore the BCM Max....
Kufatec sells the BCM Max but does not support installation instructions and harness, understandably due to the many combinations of stock equipment in Polos.

Hope to receive help here in order to reap the benefits the BCM Max has to offer.

Cheers!

To adapt the BCM Max you must follow this installation guide.
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=69826#p520951

Yes, there is some difference in the wires reaching the Light switch/Dimmer connectors.
- Blue / Gray = Yellow / Gray (T17 connector, and T6 connector)
- You must also remove/isolate the T17/6 original wire.

---

As for the Chinese automatic lights kit.
It is the old kit, in the new one the black box is smaller and it does not have the red wire (this red wire in old Kit is for the CH/LH functions - when connected to the blinker wire -).

If it does not work, remove it.

For auto lights it is best with original parts. (RLS, LSW AUTO, etc.)

Thanks Ciclo for your reply.
I have yet to get to BCM Max, as it's not yet arrived.
The Kufatec retrofit cables for xenon headlights and AFS leveling kit are installed in place.

I did a quick test yesterday with VCDS settings as per Kufatec's instructions.
I did all the VCDS config except for the one with byte 18, for fear of irreversible damage.

There was no light at all, no DRL, xenon lamp not lighting.
Please note I did the test with xenon lamps and the cornering H7, and without signal bulb, as they have not yet arrived.

Below code was autoscan with halogen headlamps installed. I will find time to autoscan with the xenon headlamps again.

Code: Select all

I expect to at least have the low beams working. Could it be due to byte 18 not yet set properly?
How does the xenon low beams get turned on?
My car does not have the auto light on function by the way.
TIA!

Address 55: Xenon Range (J431)
Coding: 0114000001000000
After entering this coding you must make the basic setting.

For all other issues nothing makes sense until you adapt the wiring for the BCM Max, and install and code such BCM. It is the first step of all.
Do not worry, everything has solution.

Have you already made your adaptation wiring for BCM Max?

Hi Ciclo,
My bad. I just realise Kufatec's adaptation requires BCM Max. Pins connected to xenon lamps A2 and B2 are not even present on BCM High.
Same goes for A63, B68, A62, A5 and B3.
I should be receiving BCM Max this week.

I have a question regarding Kufatec's xenon retrofit kit though. I traced it to see the eventual routing the retrofit kit wiring brings about.
And I got this:
*Removed sketch due to incorrect interpretation.

From my understanding of the Polo 6R xenon headlamp(left) diagram, T14a/6 should be connected to T73a/2.
But Kufatec adaptor routes T73a/2 to T14a/5 and T14a/7(ground in xenon headlamp) instead, which seems incorrect?

I have not made the BCM Max cables but I will do it when I find the time.
I'd like to get xenon lamps to work first, with high beam and DRL working properly.
Are the BCM Max cables necessary for xenon headlamps adaptation?

I hope you understand what I'm going to say.

1- please delete the sketch you've done (it hurts the view), I very much doubt that those are the instructions you received from kufatec.
2- transform 'your cables' into my installation guide (WL1, WL2, WL3). The fuses have to be pre-BCM, etc...
3- from what we have said before, what is the first step of all?

Without a correct installation a correct coding does not work, if the correct coding does not work the lights/leds of your bixenon headlights will not work.
Again, what is the first step of all?

Answer yourself to your question.

There are too many mistakes in the sketch to be of an use. i.e.:

- T14/5 and T14/7 says 31. Terminal 31 = GND. It's always indicated with a brown wire at VW.
- With the BCM max adaptation from ciclo, the J331 disappears. Forever.

Hi Ciclo,

Ok, for now I will focus on making the BCM Max wirings.
Your pics are all clear.
I see that Kufatec retrofit kit has got WL2 covered, with slight differences:
1. Kufatec did not specify which fuse with permanent positive to tap. At the time of
installation, I used SB44 instead of SB59.
2. Also, instead of using electrical bridge and tapping SB39, Kufatec's instruction
was to isolate(cut) J331 pin8, then T73/A2 and B2 connects to grey/violet wiring
towards headlamps.
Image

Image

Now, I'm still left with the task of making WL1 and WL3.

For WL3, can you check if the end-to-end connections are correct as underlined?
Image

I have now only the large and medium sized terminals in T73.
What's the part number for
WL1:
1.The small female BCM terminals for pins 54 and 57?
2.Thickness of twisted pair?
3.Female terminals for T32 at instrument cluster?

WL3:
1. T17 terminals
2 T6 terminals

Thanks Ciclo and iichel for your patience and help!

I would like to point out that it was you who have made a comparison of wiring (kufatec VS ciclo), I have always tried to avoid making comparisons in this regard (as you can see in my previous post).

The differences are gigantic. I would never follow kufatec instructions to adapt a BCM Max. NEVER. There are very powerful reasons for this.
numberior wrote: Tue Oct 10, 2017 1:03 pm 1. Kufatec did not specify which fuse with permanent positive to tap. At the time of

Well, now we have four different scenarios here to supply power (+30) to the BCM for several lights of your 6R. Pins T73a/63 and T73b/68.

1- OEM-way (factory): with two fuses prior to BCM power, one for each headlamp and other lights.
2- ciclo-way: same as OEM-way.
3- numberior-way: with a fuse for both headlights and other lights that depend on both pins.
4- kufatec-way: without fuse, direct feed.

Imagine what happens if there is a voltage peak (many reasons for this with bad electrical installations or external conditions) when you drive at 100 km/h at night.

Why do you think there is a dual system for the headlights and are combinated the High Beam from one headlight with the Low Beam from the other one in the same fuse and BCM connector on some car models like my 6R? Two fuses and connectors for both combinations.

It is for your security, in case one of the two fuses is melted you can still have some light... and avoid a difficult situation. I do not even want to imagine what would happen if the BCM is damaged by lack of fuses ...

... and all the controls and diagnostics that the BCM does in each headlight individually would have no use with this way of connecting the supply to the headlights from the BCM ...
I do not comment more on this because I do not want to extend this issue, I think it is quite clear what I mean ...

Hi Ciclo,
I'm making the comparison because I had already installed the Kufatec wiring before my first post here.
Not that I'm doubting your method.

Thanks for your explanation. Now there is compelling reason for me to correct the wiring.

I truly appreciate your help you extend to us here in the forum :)
