I want to share my experience in upgrading Midline to MFA+ Instrument Cluster.
It's not a secret that GTI IC really difficult to find.
(At an adequate price)
For a while I was monitoring local breakers and allegro.pl but without success...
So I decided to buy compatible MFA+ from Skoda Rapid or Seat Toledo!
Cluster from Toledo by my mind match better to Polo because of red needles, so I found good offer on Allegro and ordered it!
But this IC housing is different from Polo IC, so you can't directly fit it...
There are two ways to solve this:
1.Use housing from old IC
2.Figure out something different
I really like how looks like Polo 6C IC, so I decided to adapt 6C body to Toledos IC
Ordered it from Allegro as well.
( 6C ic's are really cheap! I've payed €25)
Few weeks later I got both IC's and started my project!
I divided this project for two stages:
STAGE ONE - Electronic adaptation
For this purpose I borrowed correct tool from one very good guy!
So it was like piece a cake, read out my IMMO Data through OBD and write it to new IC on the bench!
Keys learned!
After that necessary to change some Bytes in EEPROM:
- Welcome picture from Seat to VW
--- Need to change Byte 02F3 to 00
- Tank size from 55l to 45l
--- Need to change Byte 0065 to 83
- Car picture to hatchback
--- I've used Ki Helper. https://www.drive2.ru/b/3087799/
STAGE TWO - Physical adaptation
We need three left parts (I took Seat original back cover)
Here I spent a lot of time...
Because 6c IC have different construction and it's not possible just swap housing,
You need to cut, melt, grind plastic and after solder some pieces to correct place...
After I finally adjusted it I saw that there is some uncovered space between scale disc and housing:
I have solved this problem with chrome rings from Seat dash
There are some interesting pictographs like side assist and lane assist:
And the final result:
I am really satisfied with result!
