cylinder deactivation question

Ive owned my blue gt for a little while now, was wondering if the cylinder deactivation wont activate until the engine has warmed up a bit? i noticed in the summer it would pretty much start straight away and im noticing now we have the colder weather coming in that its taking a little longer to start doing the deactivation. trying to figure out whether its an issue with the car or just a normal thing. thanks

I wouldnt be surprised if this is by design. The start stop only works when the engine is warm, so cylinder deactivation probably works on the same principle as 3 cylinders over 4 when cold would have a bigger performance hit.

ok thanks for the information, although i think my start/stop works straight away, i always have it switched off anyway so i couldnt give a definite answer

I would not think that your stop/start will start working as soon as you have moved off, it needs a few conditions to be "okay" before it activates, like battery charge state as a minimum, though, with my wife's 6C Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL, if I switch the cabin air fan off to speed up engine warm up time and improve cold start economy, when I've driven a mile and stopped at lights, if I have not disabled stop/start it will stop the engine in summer.

I think that Alex gave the wrong reply after making that cylinder deactivation mistake, he should have bluffed it with " sorry that was a typo! " or " I forgot that Polo is not a 6 cylinder engine! " ??

For some odd reason i thought COD/ACT was a 4 to 3 deactivation, rather than 4 to 2 lol

I understood that was why you answered in the way you did, but I was only joking really as I would have taken the same action as you did when corrected.

Yes, but sometimes it can be amusing when you find someone doing a serious bit of back pedalling while still digging a deeper and deeper hole for themselves. They usually need to create a new account to avoid the onslaught, can be amusing - for some.
