Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hello
I'm hoping I don't get booted of here for posting this as I don't have a Polo, I have a 2013 VW Transporter T5GP.
I know they share electrical systems and I also know that this forum is where the knowledge is about these systems!
I am looking to retrofit auto-headlights and genuine bi-xenons, but I am stuck with the pesky 17pin headlight switch.
I have tried making a loom using instructions from ciclo I found on the internet.
I have changed my BCM for a 090-D as instructed to by ciclo and am now opening a new topic as requested
My problem is, that with the loom in place, everything but the main beam works.
In off position: DRLs work
In sidelight position: Sidelights work + if I pull the switch out to fogs, the foglights work.
Auto position: Nothing (no DRL and nothing when dark outside)
Main beam: Nothing (the light even goes off on the switch)
Full beam: Does not work on any switch setting
Full beam (flash): works on all settings.
The loom I made includes a fog light relay, but my fogs are factory so I'm not sure if it was needed. The fogs work as cornering lights with or without the new loom.
I'm really hoping you can help on this as everyone on the T5 forums just keep telling me to get one of those auto-headlight kits from ebay. I want OEM standard!!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
Hello graylscott, welcome (again ).
Please, post a VCDS Autoscan. It is not necessary to add a relay for the fog lights on the T5, ...but there is no problem if you add it.
Edit: Two Autoscans, before Auto lights wiring, and after ALW with 7H0937090 D BCM.
All the lights (without exception) will work perfectly in your T5GP. You can be sure. OEM!!!

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
Thanks ciclo
Still have no network on my VCDS laptop, but I'll bring home a thumb drive from work tonight so I can transfer to my Mac.
Before I do though, I'll give you a bit more info.
I am in a bit of a muddle with it a couple of things at the moment.
I have changed my BCM to the 090D and run two wires from instrument cluster to BCM.
My window regulators now work, as does my instrument cluster illumination. The problem is now that I have no feedback from my sliding door. It locks and unlocks fine via the fob, but the door doesn't show as being open on the cluster. If I open the door after unlocking without opening any others, the car will re-lock as it doesn't know the door has been opened. There is also a bulb warning on the dash, but this might be unrelated.
Is there additional wiring needed for the BCM?
I have fitted the xenon headlights with a kufatec harness (I bought it before found you) and coded based on their instructions. The lights are behaving very strangely.
In the off position, Only the the bottom half of the LEDs light up.
In the sidelight position, everything at the front is off. (You can't really tell in the picture as there is glare)
In the dipped beam position, only the projector bulbs are illuminated with the cut-off shields in the dipped position and the LEDs go off.
If I put the stalk into full beam position, you can hear the cuttoff shields drop into 'full beam' position, but the projectors go off and the inside H7 bulbs illuminate on their own.
If I pull the stalk back to flash someone, the cutoffs drop and the projectors stay on. Also the inside H7 bulbs illuminate.
Like I said, I will upload coding tonight so you can see the errors I have. (There are a few)
Thanks again
Gray

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
One more thing ciclo, are you able to supply the looms I need to complete this job?
I feel like this job is best left to the professionals (you)

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
I am applying knowledge of the Polo 6R here, I'm not sure it applies to the Transporter too.
can you describe the intended factory operation of the headlights?
main beam, is it by the xenon on the outside?
on the inside, it's the H7. is that the high beam?
and for high beam, should it always be H7 and xenon? of just H7?
----
did you run a wire from T73b/1 (black) to operate a new relay, that runs to the old wire from T17/4?
so the relay is as follows:
86 - GND
86 - T73b/1
30 - constant 12V, i.e. T17/15 wire
87 - T17/4 wire
it this is all good, it would be interesting to see the value of byte 18 and the value of byte 23 bit 0.
maybe it's necessary to add 20 to the value of byte 18 or set byte 23 bit 0 to 1.
If you do a high beam flash and you hear the relay, the problem is byte 23 bit 0.

...and T5 Bixenon headlights have an additional lamp for the High Beam in the place where the 6R Bixenon headlights have the static cornering lights.

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
Hi iichel
Forgive my n00b question, but T17? I don't have access to elsawin so I'm kind of in the dark
But in answer to your question, no I haven't added any relays nor run any extra power to the BCM. could this be the door issue?
Correct function of lights is as follows (i think)
Off position - LED DRL only (full)
Sidelight position - LED DRL only (dimmed)
Dipped position - Xenon with cutoff shield up + LED DRL (dimmed)
Full beam (push stalk) - Xenon with cutoff shield down + H7 + LED DRL (dimmed)
Flash (pull stalk) - Xenon with cutoff shield down + H7 + LED DRL (dimmed)
DRLs are supposed to dim with indicators too (they don't)
Thanks

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
I will thoroughly review the information you provided. I've already seen some mistakes in the coding, but please wait for me to review everything thoroughly.
Do you currently have any Kufatec wire installed?
If yes, you have to post the Kufatec wiring installation guide (Link? or link to the sale) ... and you have to tell me which Kufatec wires are currently installed.
The diagram used for Auto lights is correct , but as I told you it was not necessary to install the fog lights relay for your T5. Now you must leave it as it is, no problem.

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
I have a kufatec RLS loom which has been in for 6 months or so (although it only functions as a rain sensor currently as lights aren't going via the BCM)
The first time I did a RLS retrofit (on a Passat B6) I made the loom myself but was lucky enough to gave the 10pin light switch already in that car. I shouldn't have been so lazy this time
I also have the standard Kufatec xenon retrofit loom. I bought it without noticing that it says that it is only for vehicles with Rain/Light sensor.
Here is a link to the install instructions.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rzbedzgoef2sb ... 9.pdf?dl=0
Hope this helps!
Thanks again for all your help!!

Says ---> Note: ONLY for vehicles with rain / light sensor, Pr.-Nr .: 8K3
8K3 PR code = Separate daytime running lights with low beam assistant and "Coming Home" feature.
So the wiring shown below is correct but not in its entirety for your T5 (No 8K3 or 8K8 from factory).
As you can see on image, only two wires arrive to the BCM (for parking/side lights -according Kufatec installation guide-) and your T5 needs two more, from T14 connectors to BCM (for DRLs).
But we'll talk about this a bit later, now it is necessary a previous preparation of the coding for your new BCM and other things.
---
Let's start:
(you can take a seat, this topic will be very interesting if Gray is willing to get all the lights to work correctly on his T5, ...all is solved in my mind )
After having to work hard to get correct information from your T5 (because you have not posted an autoscan with your previous BCM... ) I've coded your new BCM with the final coding so that your Bixenon headlights and the automatic lights work correctly.
This BCM final coding will help us in the long (but easy) process to solve all current problems.
First thing to do, take/plug the VCDS in your T5 and do the following:
- Go to address 19, Gateway, enter in the Installation List, remove address 61 and save the changes.
- Go to address 9, Cent Elect (BCM), enter this final long coding:
B0A03DBA0EE1241193284E716EEB8E554280662F60855841320000020000
How to do it? like explained in this guide (point 20) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2nv91 ... sp=sharing (copy-paste)
It will solve the sliding door problem and other things (the current coding from your previous autoscan is a disaster) and it will throw several faults related to lights.
The more faults the better and easier to solve the problems.
Repeat with me... the more faults the b... ('m kidding...hahaha)
- Go to Autoscan, click on Gateway Installation List, wait..., Clear All DTCs, wait..., Done, repeat this process...
Now click Start button. Wait the full reading and Save the Autoscan. Post here. This is the more important Autoscan.
I'll check the autoscan and you'll be getting ready to make several changes to the original wiring. It will be a long but easy process that I will explain here in detail for everyone who took a seat.

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
Fantastic, thanks ciclo!
I've been on the edge of my seat at work wanting to get back to give this a try!
I'm definitely willing to do what it takes to get this sorted.... Hopefully it can help others in my predicament!
The good news is that the coding you gave me did indeed fix the sliding door feedback issue (but you knew that )
The bad news, no additional errors in the autoscan.
Any ideas?

Re: Auto headlight retrofit
Do i need to have re-fitted the headlight switch wiring at this point?
