hello to all .

the story so far turned on my ignition the other day and got an EPC and Engine mangement light on EPC light went off soon after running
for a bit however Engine mangement light on then after a short time the traction control light (image car skidding) comes on,

Tried cleaning throttle control valve body and MAP sensor as suggested in other cases , replaced Cam sensor, and spark plugs.
Got limited fault codes info due to cheap OBd reader Autel MS309 i.e P0016 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A) and P0068 Map/Maf sensor so as Im now looking to replace the Crank sensor but havent managed to identify it yet.

Also noticed after cleaning throttle control valve that it doesnt fully close and stays open by about 5mm is this normal or have i damaged it by forcing it open to 'clean' (and possibly wreck) as i now read i may have un set its calibration ?

Anybody know where Crank sensor is located engine location on 1.2 standard 2011 60bhp polo ...
or further suggestions
i will probably replace Map sensor as a further resort before giving up.

forgot to mention that the symptom are that the idling speed drops/dips lower than normal after revving up and coming to a stop when
running and can cause car to stall . Also Read that theres a risk of damaging the engine running the car

Those faults suggest timing is out due to stretched timing chains which also gives manifold pressure fault due to valves not closing at correct times. I would suggest replacement of chains and tensioners as your next step to cure issues.

did you do a throttle body alignment after cleaning it? could be necessary.

i was trying eliminate all of the short 'time' and cost options before the timing chain so sensors first as i dont have equipment to check the sensors i want to just swap them out. thanks for confirming my fears though.

Ive not got the equipment to do that and will explore that option thanks.

I have the exact same problem as you with my 2013 polo. I cleaned the throttle body and now it refuses to start and makes a strange noise turning over, my error code is for crank shaft and cam shaft position sensor.

Any suggestions?

Did you get this sorted mate? I have the EXACT same
Issues. Idling cut out/revs dropping. Same lights coming on, Same codes P0016 & P0068

Have a feeling it’s going to be the chain. Got a feeling Whatever I get done first, it’s going to be the other thing.

Hi folks. Can I just say that this was a really helpful thread. My son's VW Polo 1.2 2012 had this issue. It's got the 3 cylinder petrol engine and it started to idle rough and sometimes it would just cut out when returning to idle from acceleration. The engine light would come on and occasionally the traction control light (slippery road symbol) would come on too. The 2 codes were P0068 ( map/maf sensor - throttle position correlation) and P0016 (crankshaft position sensor). Having read a few of the posts on here instead of changing the sensors or playing with the map/maf I decided to get the timing chain replaced. A local garage fit a new chain, tensioner, guides and gears (it came as a kit). The car is now running very sweet. No engine lights and no fault codes. So thanks to all for providing information on this issue

Try ignition on, gas pedal all the weay to the floor count 20s, ignition off, remove key. Insert key engine on.
