Problem with error code on Auto Hvac

Post by Dtype »

Hi to all.
I own a 06/2011 Polo 1.2 Tdi HighLine with Climatronic.(wife's car)
Two days ago, did an autoscan and get an error on 08 - Auto HVAC
00705 - Relay for Collant Fan, Stage 1 (J279)
009 - Open or Short to Ground.

Ok, first, I thoght this car dont have J279, maybe J293 would make me sense.
When I turn on AC, The radiator fan won't start, but I get cold air from vents.
On my previous car (Ibiza 6K2 TDI 110hp) sometimes had this error, and was a fuse blown, on top of battery, but AC wont work.
On polo, AC seems to work.~
Someone knows why could be this? On engine module I have no errors.
Sorry my poor english.
Thanks

Your English is fine don't worry.
The j279 relay operates the fan when temperatures run high or ac is on.
It's located on the left lower cross member, below/in front of the battery. You may want to see if there is any corrosion or the relay could be broken.

Thanks.
I think I've seen a forum where you have a explanation about retrofiting climatronic, and I saw there the images. This week, the IC hose, below this relay have been changed, maye my mechanic touch that and make something.
Will lift the car and check. Fuses are good. Is plug is ok, no corrosion (i'm from portgal, cars here didnt get much corrosion),I need to change relay right?
And it's normal get no error on engine because of fan?
Thanks

It depends whether you get an error in the engine or not.
You could have the J279 inside the fan, then it's operated by PWM, then you should get an error in the engine ECU
Or you could have a J279 relay, in that case the error would show up in the climatronic.
You could have a look at the J279 relay (if you have one) and take it out and verify it's working with a multimeter and a 12V power source.
I'm not sure about the failure rate of these things... could simply be a loose connector, could be a break in the wiring loom, could be a defective relay.

Thanks again. Will check that relay first.

I seem to remember that if you search on the internet, you will find more information if you search using "VW Golf cooling fan not running" or "VW Golf cooling fan failure" as this system for controlling the AC and engine cooling fans is common across the Polo/Golf/Ibiza/Leon/Fabia/Octavia.

If you do find some of these topics, they will help you investigate the fans control system.

I hope that the weather is warmer in Lisbon than it is here right now! (yes at least 15C warmer!)

SOLVED.
Main fuse above battery (SC6 40A) blown
Replace fuse. Everything ok
