Introduction Boumbo02

Post by Boumbo02 »

Hello folks !

I am french, 38-year old, married with a 3.5-years old daughter and a 2-years old son.
I live in the subburbs of Rouen (Normandy - France) and work in the Aeronautics field as Quality Assurance Manager.

I first started driving in 1995 and have had lots of driving experience with Volkswagen-group cars because my father worked as manager at Volkswagen France:
Volkswagen 1302S, Lupo, Polo, Golf, Passat, Touran, Tiguan, Multivan, LT / Audi A3, A4 ...

I have convinced my wife to change her Fiat 500 for a Golf Sportsvan 1.4TSI 150HP with DSG7 since 07/2015 ;-)

As far as I can remember, I have had the following Polos:
- One Polo 6N2 1.4
- More than half a dozen of Polos 9N and 9N3 1.2 and 1.4TDI (at that time my father rented them with a replacement every 6 months / 15000km !)
- I bought my last rented Polo 9N3 1.4 tdi and drove it till 75000km.
- I now have the Polo 6R Confortline 1.6TDI with DSG7 since new in 12/2009 (now 188000km).

I ordered it in 09/2009 with the following manufactueer options:
- Visibility pack (automatic dimming mirror, automatic wiper)
- Design pack (16" sprot rims with 215/45R16 tyres, rear smoky windows and front foglights with intersection lights)
- Trailer hook

The Polo have had the following problems:
- Particle filter sensor replacement (~90000km)
- EGR valve replacement (~120000km)
- Air conditionning fan motor replacement with 2x restistor bridge replacement (~150000km)
- Driver window mechanism replacement (cable broken) (~180000km)
- Maybe an exhaust gas temperature sensor to be replaced soon...

I now intend to add the Polo the automatic light with CH-LH option that misses as it has already the automatic wiper with rain light sensor.

I enjoy riding bikes as well:
I have had off-roads Yamaha DT125F (1976) and TY250S (1985) but sold now
I sill have a Yamaha RD400C (1976) but not running for years due to crankshaft bearing broken (wait for deep restoration).
My daily bike is a TRX850 (1996) that I enjoy since 09/2006 ;-)

Thank you for adding me.

Hello Boumbo02, Welcome.
Thanks for such a detailed introduction.

It is very likely that with some basic instructions you will not have any problem to enjoy the automatic lights on your 6R.

We are going to your new topic in case it is necessary that you give me a little more information.
Thank you for choosing us. 8)

BAD NEWS !:

Yesterday I came to Volkswagen workshop for a routine checkup and the technical check that we have to pass every 2 year in France.
The Polo have passed the technical check with only minor remarks.

But because the engine had a noise for several days, and because the pre-heat label is sometimes displayed at the instrument cluster, I asked the mechanic for a diagnosis.

I was suspecting a problem of the ingection system because, in september, I had refueled one time with gasoline instead of gas-oil and driven 7000km since.
Morehover, the VAGCom shows a communication problem with the exhaust temperature sensor.

Verdict: The noise comes from the right side of the engine (flywheel and / or gear box).

Thus I will come back next 19th february for a gear box oil examination.
If the oil is in good condition, the replacement of the flywheel will be done (with the two clutches at the same time).
If the oil analysis reveal abnormal wear of the gear box... :(

For these things it would be good to have a magnetic plug in the gearbox connected to a MASTER CAUTION light on the instrument panel/dashboard ... as the ones are used in aeronautics. :)
Hopefully the analysis doesn't reveal excessive wear from some parts of your gearbox.

Finally I asked the mechanics to go directly to the flywheel replacement without looking at the gearbox’ oil analysis.
It was a good decision because the flywheel appeared worn out and moreover VW France supports 90% of this working party (new flywheel plus working hours).
I took the opportunity to replace the double clutch disks and several expandable parts that were giving sign of fatigue.
I have already recovered the repaired car but am still expecting the bill. I am confident this will not cost me the half value of the car ;-)
