Polo 1.0 TSI SEL 6C/6R - Airbox Removal

Post by Grumpyolman »

Hi All,

First post, as I have just converted back to VW from Seat.
Can anyone help with info on removing the airbox. Just had a look and all the torx screws to remove the lid as on the underside. There must be an easier way to remove the airbox to access the filter.

I think that if possible, you should change your thread title from 6R to 6C, as your car, if it is a 2017 car and it has the 1.0TSI engine, must be a 6C version of Polo. (the reason to correct the Polo version in the thread is to hope that more of the correct version of Polo members will assist you)

Oh, welcome by the way!

The air cleaner will need to be removed from the car, I have not worked out how, buyt typically by removing some plastic ducting and maybe a fixing screw or two, then heaving it up off waisted pillars that are grabbing rubber donuts that are retained in the filter assembly.

Edit:- out of casual interest which SEAT did you have and which engine?

Hi thanks for the reply. I figured out it should be 6C but all registration and stealer docs lustit as 6R. I have a copy of Elsawin and with much searching, I found the air box removal guide. It is pretty much what you said, remove a few hoses, undo a fixing screw and remove the whole unit. Thanks for the reply. If anyone is interested I could post the manual pics and a Google translate guide.

Grumpyolman,

The method might conceivably be the same as was eventually described to me in a posting of mine in this particular forum on Mon Nov 20th last, entitled 'Removing air cleaner lid on 2017 Polo 1.2 TSI: in need of some instructional help'. Take a look. Compare the diagrams and instructions.

PS. My dealer also registered my vehicle as 6R.

Can you not select the language in your ElsaWin, I keep thinking that I would not mind having a copy of that - used to have a very old version for previous cars.

So, are you a proper "Grumpyolman" , ie access all buses, or just practising for what is to come?

I can’t seem to get the language to change to English in the useful sections...
I’m definitely a transitional grumpy old man, just grumpy and getting older...

Based upon my own success I can offer assistance in becoming a GOM should you need it, you’ll have to catch me on a good day though.

Bus pass, blue badge and comfy slippers but no pipe.

My wife says that I'm one of them, but from what I have noticed "pot calling kettle" !

Now I'm less interested to buying a copy, though I seem to remember reading a comment that did reveal that that would be the case.
