Polo 2014 1.2 Tdi power steering light

Post by ashpolo »

Evening lads,

Ash here joining from london and coming from a vauxhall and now converted to vw.

My other car is a Golf 1.9tdi gti rep 2006.

I have just welcomed a polo to my family home and within 3 days of ownership, the power steering light has come on orange with no power steering.

The car in question is a 1.2tdi and on 2014 with inly 25k on the clock.

Is there any common issues with these? My friend plugged it into machine and there was a fault stored in the power steering ecu "insufficient voltage" or something along these lines.

On another note, the clutch biting point is also very high, but not slipping.

Ash

That somebody is talking sense, if the battery is okay a faulty earth could be the cause. Check that the earth cables are undamaged, clean and tighten the battery to chassis earth and the engine to chassis earth. Simple things, often forgotten but the cause of a multitude of problems.

Whilst you have your spanners, wire brush and conductive grease to hand be sure to have a look at the other battery connection too.

Best of luck, hope you find a cure before you knacker your arms permanently.

Evening,
Thanks for your reply.

I have been driving it without power steering and same time eating lots of spinach.

Please see attached of my findings.

I borrowed my mates ross tech cable and downloaded the software on my laptop.

Battery voltage to pump is picking up 8.99v but car is running at 13.5v when tested.

Definitely some sort of earth issue :(Image

what about the fuse on top of the battery?
even though, with both terminal 15 and 30 being under spec (should be 12V or 14V with running engine), the first thing to check is indeed the ground point and connection.

I done a continuity test with the fuses at rhe top of the battery and has a continuous beep on the multimeter from one side to the other side of the fuse.
Is it worth taking the whole plate off in the fuse box on the top of the battery?
The voltage at the big plug with blue and brown big wires on the pump is at 14.5v
Bizarre i know.
Is my pump dead? With only 25k on the clock.

Just to update,

Managed to get a pump which had been installed on a car but taken off straight away as the fault was with wiring for £120 posted :)

I will install this over the weekend and give it a go.

Fingers crossed.

Hello all,

I have my powersteering back with the new pump however i am now getting G250 short to plus.

The car is a 2014 polo 1.2tdi with traction control and I'm sure it doesn't have this g250 sensor.

Does this mean the new powersteering pump is programmed to find a g250 sensor on the car?

I have ross tech VCDS handy.

Please help.

I think you should code the power steering unit so that it knows you have ESP (hence an external steering angle sender).
the coding of your power steering unit will start with something like 112...., change the first three digits to 101...
