Installing Race Chip Tuning Box Help

Post by majorddf »

Evening all!

I have had my GTI now for a little over a year and decided it was time to spice it up a bit.

I bought myself a Race Chip S box to see if they are any good and have fallen at the first hurdle... the instructions provided do not match the engine and I am not familiar enough with what is going on sensor wise under the hood to try and fudge it.

Anyone have any experience with this that can explain to me where the Boost Sensor and MAP Sensor live? Google has proven unhelpful on this occasion.

20% on both, so looking around 220hp/380nm respectively.

Will let you know what the difference feels like!

You should film an 100 200 acceleration 3th 4th gear and post the video after the box installed this will tell us a lot of things about difference

So installed this weekend - had to get some ramps to get access to the undertray and was out of the UK for a couple weeks.

So first impressions:

1) Car idles lower
2) Sounds fruitier - both at exhaust and turbo
3) In the wet, tyre slip up to third if being a yob
4) No issues with clutch
5) Timed pre-mod 0-60 at 6.7s in the dry, post-mod 6.4s in the wet. I reckon the car could do sub 6 in the dry if wheel spin managed. Looking forward to better weather to find out!
6) Driving sensibly on my commute MPG was 47.1, up from a typical 38.5.

Honestly it feels like a totally different car - torque is massive. I took a hill that would usually be 4th gear in 6th comfortably and when you want to make best speed it goes like a race horse with a slapped arse.

Make of it what you will, but I think it was a great purchase. If anyone picks one up and wants to see my install more than happy to oblige.

I was thinking of getting the Racechip S for my Blue Gt 150bhp puts it up 20 more bhp and 50 more torque do you think yours is worth it then?

Everything is relative - Your gains wouldn't seem like a lot to me in the GTI, but if you are driving it every day you would notice the difference.

I would love to, but I can't get anywhere near a track or private road to hit 124mph for a while!
