Polo GTi 1.8 Cruise Retrofit

Post by phil5556 »

First post, so hello and this has probably been asked a few times but search isn't finding me much info.

We've just bought a 2017 GTi, no extras on it which is fine apart from the lack of cruise, which I assumed I could easily enough get fitted for around £300 ish. Has MFSW but without the cruise buttons, I don't mind if the solution is a stalk or a change of buttons.

BUT I've emailed HazzyDayz and they say it can't be done - is that it, final or is there someone that will be able to do it? I guess it's something to do with the new online activation codes thing which I don't really understand.

Ideally in Scotland but will travel if I need to.

Cheers for any info :)

I heard the same from my retrofit guy. It sounds like he right hand stalks aren’t available yet, but the left hand are!! But the issue is VW are saying it’s not possible on a Gti!

the cruise control is all controlled from the steering wheel on the 6c

so there is no stalk.

i doubt it's impossible to do just prohibitively expensive to do.

Thanks, I guess everything is possible if you try hard enough/pay enough.

Could the GTi not be specced with cruise?

We've just had a courtesy Polo and it had cruise on the left hand steering wheel buttons.

it's both possible via stalks as well as via MFSW.
either way, you'll need to go to VW to activate it, since it's a paid option. a process called SWaP and SVM will code the BCM and engine correctly, unfortunately normal tools as VCDS can't do this.

Yes, it could, although not on it’s own in the UK. Cruise control was bundled together on the 6c Polo with other options;
  • Cruise and Park pack; cruise control with front and rear parking sensors
  • Parking Pack; Consisted of the Cruise and Park pack, plus rear view camera

I haven't asked VW yet, I plan to try my local friendly dealer that seem more helpful than where we bought the car. I'll report back if I get anywhere :)

The OP’s car is a 2017 6c Polo GTI, so Cruise Control was part of the Cruise and Park Pack or Parking Pack when it would have been ordered by the first owner. I ordered my GTI at the end of 2015 and cruise was also only available as part of one of these two bundled packs at that time.

Adaptive Cruise Control was available as a stand alone option on the 6c Polo, but this option wasn’t available on the GTI.

There’s an early Polo 6c price list brochure at the link below. This might be the 6c launch price list brochure as it doesn’t include the GTI, which didn’t arrive in the UK until 2015.

http://f.shortnd.it/ukp/_New_Polo_price_.pdf

The non-ACC version of cruise control was also only available as part of a bundled pack in 2014.

So cruise control may have been available as a stand alone option on the 6r Polo but doesn’t look as if it was on the 6c.

Trust me it was as I orederd mine in Jan 2015 and every option was separate but managed to get some money off when they bundled options in to packs.

Try VW retrofit as he reckoned it can be done on the 6r by fitting a stalk. Let me know how you get on. Not heard a bad word about this guy.

Never understood why Adaptive Cruise wasn't an option on the GTI but it was on other Polos. Any ideas?

I guess the ACC radar would block too much of the intercooler.

You should be able to buy a retrofit kit for Cruise Control from VW for a Polo 6C. I don't know why it isn't offered for the GTI by your dealer. i think it is very much possible.
