Removing stereo surround on 6R Gti

Hope you guys can help me as I have just started to look at starting to install an arm rest and come to the stereo surround cover in turn the heater controls to be able to remove the console around the gear stick. There are two small rectangular slots under the stereo surround just above the heater controls do you need a special tool to insert into these slots to pull of the facia. Anybody done this before?

I always use the car key.

If you have trim tools use them at the sides of the surround, if not use two stiff plastic cards eg aa card.

It’s not difficult just take your time
