Back in a 6R GTi

Afternoon all, I'd like to start by saying hello to you all. I am not new to this forum. This was my last polo: https://uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?f=56 ... 45#p473945. My VW history consists of the following in order; 60" 6R Polo GTi, 04" MK5 GT TDi, 57" Jetta TFSi, 99" MK4 1.8t agu, 04" MK4 pd130

Anyways, going against logic (my last 6R GTi had the infamous 1.4 tsi issues and needed a new engine at 31k) and am picking up another 6R GTi tomorrow. It is a poverty spec car that I hope to retrofit most things to. I was also looking at the mk5 gti but need something a tad more frugal as it will be a daily driver used for circa 50 miles+ in town.

My original 6R GTi was running Revo stage 1 with more plans ahead however cylinder 3 let go and I refused to do any further modifications after the engine was replaced. My plan this time around is to go stage 2 onwards with the help of lucifers guide on the briskoda forums.

I'd like to ask if there is anyone in the Cambridgeshire area that may be able to help with retrofitting, mainly with vagcom coding? Also, aside from main dealer, what specialists do people recommend? I plan on rebuilding the engine with the updated CTHE internals as a form of preventive maintenance.

Many thanks, and look forward to starting another build thread soon.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes the polo gti pre-facelift is definitely one of the best all round cars for city driving. Looks nicer than the facelift and new mk10 IMO. I have missed my old 6r very much. I am hoping that with all the new information available that I can make the 1.4 tsi reliable this time. The only turn off is the earlier CAVE engines.

Just out of curiosity, have you considered the 6C GTI?
Has a bit more power, MBQ electronics and can come with a manual gearbox.

I don't like the look of the 6c gti or the steering wheel of the mk7 generation. The mk6 style of the earlier cars are the nicest IMO. Also in terms of pricing, the 6c is still expensive compared to what is available for the equivalent price. DSG is a preference due to the amount of town driving I will be doing.
