6C 1.8 gti dsG

Post by Knox123 »

Hi there
Is there an issue with the DSG box on the 1.8 GTI? i'm sure I read somewhere it was a dry clutch which is the same used in the previous 1.4, Fabia vRS and Audi A1 and is known to have many issues and reliability problems. can anyone shed any light on this please about the type of problems.

I've heard my things with the Dsg they have alot less torque output compared too the manual 6 speed due too the box not being able too handle the torque

yes limited to 250NM and its a dry clutch but apparently VW claim its so wonderful that it can easily shift in to 60mph in under 7seconds. have seen vids on youtube which show this.
However I'm more interested in its reliability as i dont have endless supplies of money should it go wrong.

The main issue is that it should never have been fitted to the 1.8tsi.

The box itself isn't too bad, it mainly other bits associated with the box that fails (clutch and the mechatronics unit).

You can get an uprated clutch but you won't get much change out of £900 before fitting.
