MFSW retrofit 6C wiring question

Post by ebsp »

Hey,

I just bought a mfsw for my 6C that I'm trying to install. I'm unsure how to do the wiring. My airbag fits it, so the plan is to reuse it. I found a thread talking about that the airbag should have two ground points, which mine has.

The new steering wheel came with two wiring looms. I decided to go with the second one. It looked more alike with the original one, despite having another connector that would connect to the steering wheel.

Now the question is, what wires I need to run to the stalks? I've attached a picture of my BCM

Fixed it by connecting the 16-pin connector's pin 3 to pin 13 on the BCM and pin 4 to 12V on the light switch.

Only thing to fix now is the horn, which doesn't seem to make any sounds.

Didn't manage to get the horn working with above wiring. My car doesn't have cruise control - at least it's not wired and coded for it. My old stalks didn't support it, but my MFSW came with cruise control buttons. Without being sure, I think the cruise control needs to be in place and properly coded in order for the horn to work through J453. Cruise control steels the wire of the horn, why it's then operated differently. There would be no reason to operate it that way, if the wire isn't being consumed by something else. I ended up rerouting the cruise control wire, that was originally used to feed to horn, back to the horn switch. Now it works perfectly, but of course makes me unable to explore if my car has cruise control or if it can be retrofitted.

I am also interested in the same modification.
I currently have VW Polo 6R 2010year, and a steering wheel from 6C Polo with MF.

What do I know so far:

In order to get steering wheel to function properly, I have to get new BCM (from 6C Polo).

I still have two questions:
1. What part.no BCM should I be after?
2. Can I enable MFA and CC with this MFSW?

The 6C0 bcm is of no use for your Polo 6R.
The mfa buttons will work
The CC buttons will not work

For the steering wheel to fully function you need a 7E0 BCM (in case of xenon or LED headlights or in case your car has a start stop system.
So if your current bcm ends on 088 or higher, 7E0 937 090xis the way to go.

In case it's 087 or lower, you could try to obtain a 6R0 937 087 R or newer bcm. The second option is to convert to a BCM max configuration and make a 7E0 bcm work. This requires some modifications to the electrical installation of your car.

The latter is probably the most complicated way of doing it. However it will open the door for future modifications like oem auto light, high beam assist, bi-xenon or LED etc etc.

Thanks iichel, that is very helpful.
I thought that 7E0 BCM is necessary for MSFW backlight to work, it woud be great if everything can be done with 6R0 BCM.

Yes you're correct. But if the backlight doesn't work, it doesn't fully work

It's possible. MFSW backlight, MFA and CCS, but not Auto lights, Bixenon/LED headlights, etc...

BCM 2016 --> 6R0937087 R/T/AA/AB/AC/AD

Hi umutsavasim, welcome.

Replace the BCM with any indicated models. Contact firegrafic to help you with the purchase.

For the BCM swap by a High model (like yours) with VCDS the only thing you have to do is this:
 http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... rol_Module
Super easy, and you'll get your SW buttons backlit.

Good luck!

Hello again. Thanks for your answer.
I've already installed my car as BCM code 87. I've done what you need to do on the link you shared. With VCDS. But I don't understand that the lights of the buttons still do not light. I wonder where I'm doing wrong.

Depends on the BCM manufacturing date
(2015)2016 onwards -->

Hello, searching a lot this issue, i found out that there is an option, at the BCM coding that probably can solve this problem.
At the 09 Central Electronics, with the longcode helper, can someone change the Byte 15, bit 7 and allow the horn signal through Lin (T5n/2)

Image

I haven't tried yet but it is promising.
