Lane Change Assist (Side Assist) Installation to Polo 6R 2012 1.2TSI 77kW RHD
Hi everyone, I’m in the process of installing the lane change assist into my polo 6R RHD and I already go through some challenges and forsee some more ahead, so i guess its good if i can share the process and experiences in this specific post.I will continue posting the details soon.
In the meantime, heres some videos on the latest development where the system is still got missing calibration error but i believe in dynamic calibration mode.

Lane Change Assist (Side Assist) Installation to Polo 6R 2012 1.2TSI 77kW RHD
#2 Wiring
As all knows, there’s not much option for RHD owners to simply buy off the shelves wiring from either EU or China as most of them being made for LHD unit. So its not a straight forward job for me to use the wiring except have to modified the length to suit my RHD polo.
the wire harness from aliexpress link above is a standard harness for VW Passat B7/CC where Lane Change Assist is equipped without the additional external activation button/status LED switch. so for the switch, i had to make my own harness.
One thing i would like to share, after installing the harness that i got from aliexpress, i got an error in the module saying there’s a short to plus / open in my driver’s side led indicator unit. After checking up, it turned out, the 7E0 radar module has different wiring diagram compared to the B7 & CC.
the B7 & CC harness apparently is using the same ground wire for both side LED indicators wheres the 7E0 is expecting a different ground wire for each LEDs while sharing the same power wires(+).
So ive to add another ground wire for the driver side led and modified the harness
From the above 7E0 diagram, one side of the LED is passing through a suppression filter C10 which i ignored because i’m not sure what it is. after simple research, i think it has to do with cars with battery at the back, which i think logically due to long wiring requirement, it needs such filter to avoid some power losses.

Re: Lane Change Assist (Side Assist) Installation to Polo 6R 2012 1.2TSI 77kW RHD
Another issues i found:
Again with LHD parts, i think these type of LED fixtures is designed with internal lens/magnifier that angled towards the driver seat on the left. As the installation left and right(due to its shape design) is the same for RHD and LHD, the intensity and visibility from my driving position is not great, especially on the right side.
I will try looking into it once i manage to calibrate the system first. maybe i can flip the lens inside. im not sure. But just reminder to those planning on such retrofit[emoji1360]

Well, it’s obvious that most dealer/service centre wont bother with retrofitted system what more if the system not even being offered from factory. So much hussle etc. So i decided to make one. From the internet, it seems that this doppler simulator cost around 2,000 usd. [emoji23].
From my first test, it works though. Here’s some details how i did for those who need.
Height of fan 280-300mm
Diameter fan - 105mm
Aluminium Sheet fan blade width - 30mm
Qty of fan blade - 8 (45degree angle)
Motor speed - Lowest speed from the Dremel tool.
Mount height - 700-800 mm. depending on radar height.
Well of coz the best setup there should be some sponge/absorber at the back of the fan blade.

So you successfully made calibration with that device?

Re: Lane Change Assist (Side Assist) Installation to Polo 6R 2012 1.2TSI 77kW RHD
I havent properly do the calibration process as I was experimenting the fan design, worried it just not going to work and 2ndly i still got limited visibility error on the master module, in my case: the left radar. I’m trying to figure out that first since both side are mounted at the same mounting setup. not sure why yet.
But, i know its working because i did try calibrate using vcds (customer service calibration) for the left one. its not working. as i said the visibility issue. But the right one finished correctly[emoji41]. And i noticed the diff it made to my right radar before n after the calibration (which i did without measurement and proper alignment).
Btw, the system only works above 60kmh to test. So i found out theres an adaptation channel called ‘Analysis 1’ where if we activate, it will tell the system that vehicle speed is 60kmh, meaning i can see the alert LED in slow speed and monitor the performance while driving even at low speed.

Next is to properly setup the doppler simulator since i know the design works and open up the bumper again to check why the visibility issue.
but i still can’t figure out how to get the brightness control menu inside MFA+. Inside the coding, its either choosing the lane change activation from a button or CAN BAP. If i choose the button activation as i have the button, it works but no menu inside the MFA. If i choose the CAN BAP type, the main title menu ASSISTANT appear inside the MFA, but got nothing when click and the button doesnt work.

Very interesting calibration method!
I am going for this mod as well!
Only with different radars type
Not sure about brightness menu.
Maybe solution in the IC eeprom?
