Hi guys, looking for a bit of help. Not used to working on VW's and while doing some work on my mums car I found this in the engine bay sitting loose in a tray to the left of the engine as you look at it.
Does anyone know what it might be or where its come from? The car is a 2011 1.6 TDI. The end of it looks like it might be used to remove security bolts but its almost totally rounded off. Wondering if its worth worrying about.
BTW the golf ball wasn't in the engine bay! just put it there as a size comparison.
Found this in engine bay...

Has the car been in for a timing belt change? Looks like genuine VAG tool for locking cam or tensioner?

Hi,
Looks like a piece of VW special tool 3411.

Il's broken so I would look for other parts in the engine bay but I won't be to much worried about.

My best guess is also a tool and not a part of the engine. Perhaps some cambelt tool?

Re: Found this in engine bay...
I agree, most of these tools have a plastic ball at the end, the tool shown in the later posting is just a threaded bar to allow the front of some cars to be moved out into the service position, ie to hang the front end on while accessing front areas of the VW Group in-line engines like timing etc.
Re: Found this in engine bay...
Thanks guys,
Yep guessed it was a tool of some kind but just wanted to check. It was in a few months ago for a fuel injector change so likely been left in there since then.
I'll return in to the garage, at least I don't have to dig around trying to find where in the engine it came from.
Thanks for the help
