Hello ciclo,

Thank you very much for this info, I will study it.

I know you don't create the wirelooms anymore, but is there any other person which can do it?

Hi guys,

Today I finally installed the new VW UP steering wheel with buttons.
The girlfriend is happy with it :)
20191109_140334_newwheel.jpg
But I noticed a problem now, the reverse light doesn't work.
I first checked all the light bulbs but they are all OK.
I don't know if this was already the case before I did the swap...

Is there a fuse regarding reverse lights I can check?
Maybe the switch (we have an automatic gear), I can check if there is some measure block for this switch.

I guess it could also be the output signal of this 090F bcm is faulty?

EDIT: Now that I did some googling it might be some setting in Adaptation channels.
To be honest I did not copy them over, but I did make an Admap of the original 087D bcm.

According to this diagram it should be fuse 18, but that fuse is OK:
fusebox.png
The gear switch seems to work, because the cluster showns D1, N, R when moving the gear.

I haven't found any setting (coding nor adaptation) which looks likes it relates to reverse lights :(

Does anybody have any idea what I could check before I buy another 090F ?

Thank you,
H2Deetoo

Sorry if I am spamming your thread. I just wanted to ask what model is the Garmin navigation that you have in the picture.

I see that it have a picture of the open door. Does it have more integrations with the car?

It's called MAPS+MORE and is indeed integrated with the car's radio (RCD215).
It is standard for VW UP's from 2014 I suppose?

Ok thank you. I didn't know that it was a factory option. I saw the Garmin logo and I though it was an aftermarket solution.

I've run out of daylight now but tomorrow I'll swap back the 087D bcm.
If the reverse lights work then, then I guess it must be a faulty 090F bcm...

In your case in particular, with automatic gearbox, and with BCM Max installed, the fault is that you do not have +30 power in terminal T73a/63 for the reverse light to work.

Before you buy another 090F? Sounds like ultimatum ...

It seems that the current BCM 090F that you have installed works correctly. It does what it must do.

ciclo, thank you very much for this information! I would have never thought of this

I have some additional questions if you don't mind:
- Where does the 087D bcm take the reverse light power from then?
- Instead of going through the firewall, can I take the power to T73a/63 more locally (fusebox or other bcm wire) ?
- Can you tell the partnumber of this T73a/63 repair pin? I have some Passat BCM connectors with wires but not sure if those pins are the same.

Thanks again for helping!

In your model year, the reverse light supply is a + 15 signal that comes from the power/ignition switch (D) or from a relay. This signal goes through the SC18 fuse, then through the reverse light switch F4 and then goes to the reverse light.
The input signal for the BCM (087) is informative, it is not a power signal.

I have noticed that your automatic gearbox is ASG (automated but manual), it is not DSG, so it is probable and due to the installation of a BCM Max that you also need to add another new wire, from T73b/12 BCM white connector to the taillight connector, ... where is the reverse light wire (remove/isolate the old wire and install the new wire).
I am not absolutely certain because sometimes erWin has ambiguities, these ambiguities are due to the fact that the HW and SW (and parameterization) of BCMs only cover the assumptions of original installations, so they really are not ambiguities. In the PQ25 it is necessary to work and see the real world (which wires arrive until what places) to have certainty in this type of modifications.

The ASG gearbox supposedly sends the reverse info via the CAN lines, but for your model year the T73b/12 cable is not included in the erWin diagrams, only the F4 switch, ... hmm... something weird is happening here ...
It is necessary to see the real world to believe. :)

Yes, from the red wire that reaches terminal 3 of the J33 relay adapter  viewtopic.php?f=56&t=73901#p562649, which forces you to do what I indicated here  viewtopic.php?f=56&t=73901#p562826.

It is safer (and I think easier) from the battery.

MCP, already indicated in the first image here  viewtopic.php?f=56&t=73901#p562826

>This signal goes through the SC18 fuse, then through the reverse light switch F4 and then goes to the reverse light.

Could I take the output of SC18, and route it to input T73a/63, then use output T73b/12 and connect it to the output of reverse light switch F4 ?
This basically means I completely isolate switch F4, and let the 090F bcm behave as switch. This means I can leave the wiring as it is.

It seems (for me atleast) this is an easier and more local change. Correct me if I'm wrong.

>If you install a PQ25 BCM High (not Max) manufactured from 2015/6 (better a 2018/9 model if possible) everything should work correctly for the new MFSW models, including the buttons backlight.

Okay, this might be a cleaner solution for me. I think 1S0937087H or 087K are suitable parts?
If this means no wiring must be changed I guess it would be interesting to find this bcm ...

Okay I am studying VW UP 2011+ diagrams and I can see indeed that switch F4 controls the reverse lights (RFL), and T73b/48 is just an input.

Who is controlling switch F4? I guess this is a mechanical switch for a manual gearbox.
If though I have an ASG (automated manual gearbox) this F4 switch isn't present otherwise it would have worked.

So I guess for ASG they use a different solution, maybe through BCM using pin T73b/12 because this pin *is* present in my 087D bcm.
I did not check if there actually is a wire, but I can do so later.

Maybe simply the input power pin has changed? Maybe adding T73a/63 is sufficient?
I guess we need to find a valid wiring diagram for an ASG VW UP...

Okay according to this diagram T73b/12 should be black/blue and indeed controls reverse_light.
It seems only for vehicles with start/stop system, but it seems my ASG car uses the same:
bcm_T73b-12.png
This is an old picture, but it seems the colors on the positions seem to match and I indeed have the black/blue wire near pin 12.
I will make a better picture later to be 100% sure:
20191026_123615_T73b.jpg
So if this is all right it seems the 087D takes power from a different input than 090F.
It would be interesting to know what input pin is used..
And I think adding power to T73a/63 will be enough to make it work?

Perfect pic, everything cleared up now. (real world)

As I said from the beginning of our conversation for the reversing light you only need to feed the PIN T73a/63 with +30 power wire. (don't make other inventions   , other lights are also involved)
The reverse light will work correctly with the 090F BCM.
