1.2 TSI owners - What’s the recommended tyre pressures for the standard 185/60/15 tyres please?

The tyre pressure plate on our car says 38psi, but I don’t think this is correct.

Thanks

I put 39 psi front and 36 rear. Even when I had 185/60 R15 and even now with 215/45 R16.

Why not contact manufacturer, they know best?

Do you own a VW, much experience of VW dealerships? Seriously, much more knowledge in forums such as these than any dealership.

If you are new to VW you have yet to discover this. [emoji2]

I use that size in winter and stick with the same pressure as the summer 16" wheels/tyres, I see that I've noted that "lightly loaded" for these 15" tyres is 35/32 and comfort is 37/34 though I use the slightly higher pressures of 38/36.

Slider, I merely tried to make a helpful reply to your original request and felt that manufacturer would know best. Their figures are the standard. I didn’t/don’t want to get into a sparring match. I have owned around 60 cars, including MK2, MK3 Golf GTi’s,
2 MK7 Golf Rs(manual and DSG), several other VAG cars amongst them all.
All the best.

That’s VW’s recommended tyre pressure, but IMO it’s not necessarily the optimum tyre pressure for comfort and evenness of tyre wear.

VW have a habit of recommending quite high tyre pressures - the higher the pressure, the lower the rolling resistance, which may have a positive impact on VW’s published fuel consumption and emissions figures, but it could mean the tyres wear unevenly across the tread width (more wear in the middle of the tread than the outer tread if the pressure is too high).

Some VW’s have a recommended ‘comfort’ tyre pressure for partial load (up to two occupants plus luggage) which is a few psi less than the ‘normal’ recommended pressure. This should also be shown of the sticker inside the fuel filler flap if applicable to your car (usually the second set of figures on the sticker).

Some owners over on golfgtiforum.co.uk run the tyre pressures a couple of psi lower than the recommended figures, so you could try that. You may see a benefit in ride comfort, and IMO any reduction in mpg (if there is any) is likely to be marginal.

I have 215/45/R16 tyres on my 1.2 TSI and listed on various sites it states 28psi all round.
The tyres do look like they need more air in though TBH but usually just me and the Mrs in the car so feels ok.
Who knows best?

I'd expect that MPG and maybe general grip would improve if the pressure was higher than 28PSI at the front, that really is too low considering the axle load the 1.2TSI engine places on the front wheels.
