2nd High Beam lights suddenly dark

Post by regeli »

Recently bought a 2012 model Polo 1.2 TSI and when I came home yesterday, I noticed that the right 2nd high beam light was not working.
I had a spare set of H7 bulps and replaced it, but same behaviour. The left one was working, so swapped the one from the left side over to the right side, no light
Swapped again, the left bulp that was working from the beginning, I put back on the left side, but now this one was also totally dark...
Replaced the left one also with a brand new H7 bulp, but now both front parking lights are dark. Measured the wires to both bulps, 0V. Rear parking lights are ok.

Googled a bit and found out that there is a fuse for left and another one for the right side. Measured all fuses today and all are good.
I did also unplug the battery for about 15 min to see if that would solve it if there was an active error code somewhere, no luck.

I read something about a transistor failure in the BCM module, can this be the case?
A BCM swap looks like not to be straight forward and get it done by a dealer will be costly I guesss.

Any answers appreciated, thanks!

No the BCM doesn't control the high beams in your car.
Fuse 34 should be for both high beams (15A) or only the left beam (7.5A). In case of 7.5A, fuse 36 will be for the right side main beam. Did you check these?

You'r right, BCM is for parking lights and etc. look like.
Will check the mentioned fuses tomorrow, but I checked all fuses with my multimeter today and all ok.

Are you sure? That's a bi-xenon headlight, and the light you've just circled is the cornering light and not the high beam. The right one should come on when you turn your steering the the right at low speed or stand-still or turn on the indicator at the same speeds.

Don't panic, anyone can get it wrong, remember to come back and tell us how it goes.

Late reply, but you were right. If I turn left, left corner light goes on and when turning opposite direction :D
