Rob’s Blue 1.4 Tdi 3 cly 6C polo tweeks to GT trim format
So I thought I would capture timeline of my motor, or my daughters first car tweeks to help anyone thinking about some mods
Started out as Standard new style 2014 Q4 yr 5 door 1.4tdi 90PS SEL POLO 6C
had good level spec being SEL, but didn’t have everything I would want.
Came with mirror high mib2 stereo - touch screen, full cruise, mfsw, voice, central locking, Bluetooth, usb and audio in sockets, armrest.
The interior was in mint condition but just wasn’t to my liking and an option for the met blue the car is on the SEL was the GT interior.
Here is the car as it arrived
From here I started researching what mods could be done which let me to join this, definitely one of the best source of information and people like iichel, ciclo to name a couple make it a very informed site, and others threads that trying to spell the user names from memory ....
So simple was a tasteful front grill as the one on the car was cracked at the inner edge from a bird strike, so on went a nice gti one with the I changed to a D as it’s diesel.
From here the standard back end was just to plain, liked the gt and gti but getting a good bumper and impact to insurance was a concern, were as stick on trim doesn’t change the car
So rear badge and rear splitter were secured
From here I had been searching for top level stereo with built in Nav and CarPlay as that all the youngsters want these days as life revolves round there phones!
So got a discovery media unit with NAV, Wi-fi, carplay, bluetooth, telephone, lan, voice enabled and CP removed and a Nav, / voice 8 inch touch screen.
Dropped the glovebox, ran the GPS aerial to above the interior lights and changed the base media unit, changed the screen and via vdcs changed the setup up to very Polo, start screen as GTD, and then ploughed through each coding to get it setup for my audio type and options I wanted active.
Much better with the CarPlay so fitted phone holder where it was where I liked it with keeping access to the car controls
From this site I got interested in trying to expand the usb sockets in the car by using the hub, but I didn’t manage to get it to work, but did fit a rear dual powered USB ports for the back passengers
I had now found a new GT 5 door interior with door cards complete in Germany, deal was done and the complete interior to the dealer build optional interior transformation was scheduled

Re: Rob’s Blue 1.4 Tdi 3 cly 6C polo tweeks
So the new GT 5 door interior arrived and Wow the change it made to the driving experience and comfort of the car war immediate
The advantage with the new interior was the seats were heated, so the wiring and controller and heated seat buttons were retrofitted to be as standard install and vdcs updated the bcm module to activate them once install was finished, nah ever really warm in Scotland so heated seats really a must have and once you have had them there’s no going back!
Nice switches fully working
That leads me to the latest completed tweek, new full. Stainless exhaust as the original was on last legs, it has given an extra bit of pull when pulling off, a common complaint on the 3 cly diesels.
Just fitted new autolights switch which immediately worked to lights on default when tried, with being a 6C lights are controlled by the bcm,
So I need to get the light / rain sensor fitted, but will do this at the same time as a auto dimming mirror.
I am also looking to upgrade to have passenger airbag off option, got the switch, plug and dash light and plug, but am going to need somebody help from ciclo I think on this one....

Re: Rob’s Blue 1.4 Tdi 3 cly 6C polo tweeks
Last big update I did was again thanks to ciclo, I change my rear springs for the slightly 15mm drop and it has improved the ride quality 10 fold, I bought new Sachs springs, a pair new for £73 delivered, put new blisten b4 rear shocks on at the same time.
Last thing I am looking for is a tasteful front bumper lower splitter or just outer quarter wings to finish it off, and maybe a carbon finish rear roof spoiler that just mounts onto standard spoiler on the car.
Anyone any ideas, carbon finish

Wow looks awesome. Did you have issue with the headunit swap. Which model did you have before? And do all the features work e.g Bluetooth and MFSW buttons.

Hi Marco_polo
It had its factory mib2 with mirror play and touch screen so the car already had the correct wiring, bar the gps aerial.
I bought a CP protection removed unit, slightly more expensive but plug and play.
You still need vdcs to set all the config setting to suit the functions the polo expects, speakers, car type setting, but then you can set all the extras the new unit has, I am teaching my daughter to drive so have enabled the driving instructor setting to help me check indicator use and monitor speed etc.

Hey!
Are you still using the original front suspension? I find it too soft. When I try to push down the car with my own weight the rear feels quite firm, while the front end is mush softer.
It's good to known that changing just the rear improves the ride quality!

Yes still on original front, the lowering of the rear changes the COG of the car and removes some weight from the front end, I don’t get the heavy knocks from the top mounts like I use to now as it got just over 40k on it mileage wise

So been very lucky and have secured a set of GT genuine clean alloys 17” to finish off the look of the car

Wow great job! Looks very nice
Can I ask you what's the ride height? (from the center of the rim to the fender) Because I'm collecting everything to put the original configuration back but I'm taking measurements to see how much will be taller than my current configuration

Love this . How do find the ride with the bigger wheels, I use to have 18' on mine and it was alot more comfortable.
