6R Remote Central Locking Retrofit

Post by Dishwasher »

Hi All,

I posted a little while ago asking about easy retrofits to a base spec 6R. So far, I've replaced the RCD210 with an RCD310, and fitted a factory AUX port. I've also chucked a dashcam on, and replaced the black plastic mirror caps with red ones to match the paint.

I'm looking a bit more seriously into retrofitting remote central locking to my car. I reached out to some VW specialists in the area, who have said that in addition to swapping the BCM to a higher spec model, I'd also have to replace the window regulators and door locking modules. One quoted more than £1000 in parts alone.

Has anyone here got any experience with replacing a 85 BCM with an 86 and then activating Remote Central Locking? I don't want to have to fit an R-Click kit that splices into the main loom and adds an additional key fob to the car - I'd much rather try and get a proper VW RCL key, with the added functionality of being able to raise and lower the windows from the keyfob.

TIA.
Dishwasher.

Why not fit a 6R0 937 087 while you're at it? I don't think you need to replace the door lock modules and window motors tbh.

What you do need to look into is the keys.
Your current keys will likely have a glass transponder 'pill'. This/these need to be moved to your new keyfobs with remotes and this is a delicate job.

For the key part it pretty easy, just find a key with 3 buttons, id 48, 434 Mhz, you can get a new one for 9$ and the quality is top notch.

Just transfer your immo chip from the basic key, shave the plastic layer by layer, take your time it takes about 15 min with a unility knife. And just use some silicone to glue the immo chip in the new key so it doesnt rattle around.

If your buying a BCM listen to ichel, abd get a higher one that supports cruise control. Sometimes you can find the stalks for cheap and pop them in, run a couple of wires and life is good.

Thanks for the advice both. I've downloaded and installed VCDS, and i'm just waiting for the cable to arrive.

I'm confident in my ability to upgrade the BCM, following this guide: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do-y ... odule.html

I have two main worries/questions. 1) I'd rather not slice up my key to remove the transponder pill - is it possible to get a key from VW/Online that can be matched to my car? And 2) Is the wiring different? Will I need to source a door loom/run any extra wires to get remote central locking to work, or is it as simple as fitting a suitable BCM and pairing a key?

I'm a little concerned that the system components may be significantly different between a non-remote and a remote central locking system.

What do you think?

Were you able to complete this?

My 2011 polo 6R has central locking by key in barrel but I’d like remote central locking. So are you saying all I need to do is upgrade the BCM and have keys coded?
