If your car came with a 15" full sized steel spare wheel, and your car now has 16" alloys on it, then that 15" original spare wheel is still okay for that car.
Put it this way, my wife has a 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI SEL bought new, that car came with 16" alloys as standard and a 15" steel spare wheel.
Edit:- the bigger 16" steel spare wheel is only needed when the car has bigger front brakes, like 314mm, if it has 288mm or 256mm front brakes, 15" steel wheels fit over them easily - as you must know if your car came to you with 15" wheels.

As RUM4MO has said, as your existing space saver fits over your brake calipers, then there’s no need to get a larger space saver spare.

Sorry, I missed that you’d said the spare was a full sized wheel and not a space saver. I’d agree with RUM4MO that the 15” wheel with (presumably) a 185/60 R15 tyre should be OK to use as a spare on a car with 16” wheels and 215/45 R16 tyres. You could only use it as a spare on the car as a temporary measure though to get you home or to a tyre place. As said regardless of the rim diameter of a spare wheel and even if it has the same tyre size on as the other wheels on a car, it will always be classed as a temporary spare wheel and so limited to a low maximum speed limit, although these normal road tyres will last a lot more miles than the skinny space savers.
Only one useful reason for changing your 15" steel spare wheel to a 16" with same sized tyres as your new 16" alloys is, as time goes on, when it is time to replace a tyre, I have in the past while being in this situation, swopped the best used tyre onto the steel spare - and when I had an severe puncture early in that car's life, I swopped the unused spare tyre onto the car and got the next tyre fitted to the spare - by that time, time had moved on and I could not buy a new "same" version of the tyres fitted to that car.
Okay if you plan to increase the brake calliper/disc sizes, then moving up a wheel size might be necessary, otherwise, not really needed.

Made sense to deep clean and ceramic coat then whilst they were off the car.
And yes, Continental tyres. I never cheap out on things like that
