Wheels....

Post by jww1986 »

Hi everyone,

Where is the best place to get my hands on some R line alloy wheels?

I would really like the Salvador style, would anyone know if there are replicas available? I was quoted £606 per alloy from Leeds VW....

Thanks,

John

Wow, just wow. Nice price.

Part number is 6C0601025J (16" rims). I'd still stay OEM, not after market. So choices, Gumtree, EBay, breaker yard. You might have to buy individually. Depending on condition, you can get them refurbished to bring them back to life.

Key thing is they haven't been buckled. Kerb rash although not great is repairable. With new tyres you can get them checked and balanced, new valves.

Incidentally, one word of warning. Avoid breakeryard.com, they are charlatans. If you have a local dismantlers, then contact them.

VW Mallory alloys are a similar style to the Salvador alloys. Part number for the 16” Mallory alloys for the Polo is 6R0601025T. Wheel spec; 7J x 16”, ET46.

Mallory’s were available for different models of VW vehicles in different sizes, so if you like these then be sure to get the ones that’ll fit the Polo.

There’s a brand new set of OEM 16” Mallory alloys for the Polo available at the link below - a German company who specialise in parts and accessories for Mercedes, Smart, Audi and VW cars. They do ship to the UK. The Mallory’s are still quite expensive, but much cheaper than the price Leeds VW were asking for a set of Salvador alloys.

They also have a set of OEM 17” Mallory alloys for the Polo (part no. 6R0071497A). They’re quite a bit cheaper than the 16” version but you’d need to factor in the cost of more expensive 17” tyres. The 17” version of the Mallory alloy are 7J x 17” ET46.

Thanks for the helpful replies team.

Treat me like a dummy....with the tyres, what sizes would I need for the 16" and 17" wheels. I'm very tempted for the 17" Malory design now!

The 16” version of the Mallory alloys is the same as the Salvador alloys (7J x 16” wheel with an offset of ET46), and VW fitted 215/45 R16 tyres to 6r / 6c Polos that originally came fitted with this size of wheel.

I don’t think the 17” version of the Mallory was ever fitted as standard on UK spec Polos. However, it’s the same spec (7J x 17”, offset ET46) as the 17” Montani alloys that were fitted to the 6r / 6c Polo Blue GT and the 17” Serron alloys that were available as a factory fit option on the 6c 1.8 Polo GTI. The factory spec tyre size for those wheels is 215/40 R17.

Something to consider with the 17” Mallory’s is that if these weren’t fitted by VW to UK spec Polos, you might find it difficult to get a replacement wheel if you ever need one - e.g. if one gets damaged (buckled or cracked from pothole damage) and the extent of the damage makes it unrepairable from a safety point of view. 17” Mallory alloys for other VW models (i.e. cars other than a Polo) have a different bolt pattern so they won’t physically fit on the Polo.
