Understanding Current flow diagrams?

Post by wolfie »

I have a couple of little niggles with the car and thought I might tray and and check a few components in an attempt to diagnose things or just rule things out. I've sort of got my head around the current track diagrams other than component locations!?

A quick example. I want to check the relay that switches on the electric water pump (V50) it's switched via a Relay (J496) which is powered up via the main relay (J271) Great that's straight forwards enough, but it doesn't appear to reference component locations, so how do you work out where they are on the car? (unless I'm missing a trick.)

I know the main relay board is tucked up by the fuse box, but there is at least 1 relay in the engine bay.

Finding the fuse box layout is easy enough, but again I can't seem to find a layout for the relay assignments.

Pretty sure I can work it all out anyway, but wondering if I'm missing a trick and missed something under my nose.

From where are you sourcing the wiring schemes? ELSA or ERWIN?

I downloaded the manuals from e-manuals online iirc, but it's all erWin stuff.

I see. I'm usually using ESLAwin, and that does contain some images from controller locations etc.
I don't think the ERWIN manual contains that kind of information, it only contains the wiring schemes.

Cheers, I just thought I may be missing a trick.

I can find some component locations by simply doing a quick search through the manual sections, that finds some but not all. As I say I'm having problems finding an overview of the relay positions/locations. It's odd, I can find an overview of all the earthing points, I just thought some of the major components might have been identified.

Thank you, is that ELSA? And it is where do you access/source it?

let's say that these usually come from the less legal sources.

I had a copy of that for my old 2000 VW Passat 4Motion, I maybe wisely loaded it onto an old laptop that never got connected to the internet, it was very handy, I was smart enough to keep a note of the date/year I bought it, which was handy as it turned out to be "time limited" - so when I needed to use it, I had to turn that laptop date back!

If I remember correctly, it was only the operating program that I loaded onto that old laptop, the data was kept on a disc, which with time cracked and then that was that!!

I think that what I was sold was just a demo version, which was okay for me.
