What to look out for- 1.2 TDI SE
I have just purchased a Polo 1.2 TDI SE, I am due to pick it up this week. Is there anything I should be looking out for regarding common faults etc. Regards, Trev.

Check to see if its had the Dieselgate fix applied and if it has, find a tuner to roll it back to a pre "fix" file.
It will run better and puts less strain on the EGR valve and DPF.
Check for broken suspension springs, which are common on most cars nowadays and worn front suspension bushes depending on mileage.

Should be a small sticker with a recall/service action number on it in the boot near the spare wheel.
Alternatively you should be able to check with your local VW dealer. There was an online checker, but they seem to have been taken down recently.
You should also check when it last had the cambelt and water pump changed. Should be every 5 years, I Can't remember the mileage interval, but it is whichever comes soonest anyway.

Thanks I appreciate your help. The Polo had a full service at 60,000 miles, it is now at 63,000. I presume that would cover the cam belt and water pump.

Never presume anything when buying a second hand car
Ask for the invoice for the service if possible you should be able to see what’s been done, just because it’s had A service doesn’t mean it was the correct service?
if your in doubt or can’t prove the belts need to be done or have been done then budget for that cost in the sale price.

Highly unlikely. As said check for receipts.Trev the farmer wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:49 pm Thanks I appreciate your help. The Polo had a full service at 60,000 miles, it is now at 63,000. I presume that would cover the cam belt and water pump.

Re: What to look out for- 1.2 TDI SE
I have been trying to find out if my polo has had the dieselgate fix. I have checked for stickers around the spare wheel well, nothing. I have been on the vw website and entered my vin number, it says “this vin number is not part of claim “ . Does that mean it has not had the fix ?

When I checked mine on the website it said the same, but then when I checked it again it told me that it had been done.Trev the farmer wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 2:31 pm I have been trying to find out if my polo has had the dieselgate fix. Check with your local VW dealer, they should be able to tell you.

If it has been at the dealer since dieselgate, it has the updated software.
Re: What to look out for- 1.2 TDI SE
CHANGE CAMBELT AND WATER PUMP !
The bearing failed on my waterpump after only owning the car for 1 month and the cambelt jumped.
Also like everyone else has said, rollback mapping to previous deiselgate fix. Mine drives like crap when in low rev's.
