Infotainment display corrupt (Radio, phone, nav still working!)

Post by rjpreston »

Hi all - looking for your expert assistance with an odd problem...

The radio/navigation/infotainment screen (in my 2015 BlueGT) is displaying corrupt and only a small fraction of the pixels display so it is very difficult to understand what is being shown. Graphics tend to be just diagonal lines, and text is very pixelated and incomplete. A couple of photos attached to illustrate. The touchscreen controls work fine, as does the radio, phone, etc. Its just the screen has gone weird -
...so you can sort of see that the radio is tuned to BBC Radio 6 Music...

...and the map is just a diagonal line but on-screen menus are sort of readable...

I have tried a press-and-hold-the-on-off-button reset without success and the screen corruption remains. However, the VW logo on the boot splash screen displays perfectly, so I suspect there is nothing wrong with the LCD display screen itself. I have had the display control unit and the glovebox unit out and checked all cables seated securely. I have even disassembled the head unit and re-fitted the ribbon cable connectors between the PCBs and the LCD module.

I'm not going near a VW garage because prices will just be silly. Does anyone know / suspect whether it might be a hardware or software fault, and whether it would be in the head unit or the glovebox brain?

Failing that, any recommendations for specialists in West Midlands would be much appreciated :)
