Golf R...... Hurdy.

Post by Hurdy »

Yes, as most of you know, the lure of the 2.0TFSI, 4WD and the 6 speed DSG proved just too much for me to resist last year.

After almost a year with my black 6R Polo GTI I was finally seduced by another Golf.

So out rolled the Polo and in rolled a 60 plate Golf R DSG with just over 5k miles on her.

Now being a serial modifier of cars it wasn't too long before she was treated to some modifications and this is where she sits at the moment.

387bhp and 398lbft

0-60mph in 3.45 seconds
0-100mph in 8.7 seconds
Standing quarter mile in ???? Still to be determined in the current spec, but I'd say just into the 11's.

She has some nice supporting mods including.....

Bilstein B16PSS10's
H&R arbs
Anti lift kit
Heavyweight droplinks
Full poly bushing front and rear
Lightweight alloys
HPA Haldex race controller
Intake
Full TBE
Uprated HPFP
Devils Own Water Methanol injection
GIAC extreme race map
GIAC stage 3 custom DSG map

And a few shiny things. 8)

Thank you for looking.

Update...........

Water methanol finally installed - awesome mod and I can highly recommend it

Had the car on the dyno on Sunday with the water methanol running. The car was dyno'd in FWD mode due to the way the dyno calculates 4WD drivetrain losses.

Also had chance to do some more test runs............

It injects a water methanol mix into the throttle pipe just before the air intake sensor to reduce intake temperatures through vaporisation and atomisation. The mix is then sent into the engine where it combusts to make more power. The methanol also has a higher octane rating than normal petrol.

Very nice indeed

I keep getting tempted by an Edition 35, but the Edition 30 will do for now

That is outstanding! Anymore plans? Over 400bhp soon? Was there a torque limiter on the gearbox? Remember reading you hitting the limit of the gearbox with your polo

Yes, plenty more plans. There's plenty of headroom in the R. The US guys have the R now too and are developing some pretty good stuff for the ECU and DSG. The turbo will be upgraded too. The gearbox will try and push anything you want through it and there are 5 stages of upgrade packs for them, but not cheap!

The DSG was actually de tuned once on wmi as it made much more torque, but at the expense of power.

The car can easily be tuned beyond 500bhp, but that would just be silly!

As stock with 270bhp they are limited to 155mph. Mine has been delimited and would probably top out around 170ish on,a,GPS.
