Check your ignition parts, especially dizzy cap and rotor arm, then move on to spark plug cables and plugs. I would guess one of these is the culprit.

mine sometimes has a similar problem, causes the rev counter to go mental, happened after a recent gearbox, driveshaft and cat change, not too much hassle as it only rarely does it. 1400 miles with the only problems being a dodgy exhaust and taillight wiring. either goin back to a Mk3 or gettin a honda civic

Hi guys.

I experience the same issues.
VW Polo 2002, 1.2, petrol.
Fuel filter was changed, air filter was cleaned...what else can I do?

Alex Perkins can help please?

Change your spark plugs and if that doesn’t fix it, the three coil packs.

Thanks Alex.
I just went last week to the garage.
They said the spark plugs were okay.
One coil was defect and was changed.

Should I still go ahead and change the spark plugs?

Don’t always trust garages and what they say. If one coil he failed the others are often on their way

Thank you again!

How do I check if coil or spark plugs are bad?

You’d have to look at the spark plugs after they are removed one by one and assess the electrode condition and the color of the tip

Coils are hard to check. It’s normally a case of just replace as there’s only three on your engine
