Parts location

Post by Jeffliddell »

Hi all just bought a 3dr 6n1 polo 99 plate. Just replaced the engine as it dropped a valve and holed a piston, now the clutch release lever where the cable connects has broke the weld. Tried welding it but it must be a cast shaft as it broke straight away. Question is can i buy a new release lever and shaft and where from. I have trawled the web to no avail. The haynes manual calls it the release lever. Any ideas anyone. Its a simple fix if i can get the part. How much if anyone has done it. Appologies if it is already in here somewhere lots of info to look at. Cheers all jeff

Thanks for the reply. Went to my loal vw dealer and yes the part is available on back order at the price you quoted. I removed the box and the removed the arm. Such a simple job to get the arm out. I ground the weld off cut a nice groove in the top and welded it back up. I stress tested it to be sure and put the box back in. All done in a day and working great. Thanks for taking the time to reply. The engine is 1.4 8 valve. Runs real sweet for its age.

Was going to say, if you cut a good groove, youll get a decent strong weld 8)

These engines last forever if looked after!
