Windscreen cowl retainer

Hi
There is a retainer that clips onto the bottom of the windscreen that the cowl clips onto. My windscreen (99 6N polo) is scratched and needs to be replaced, the glass company say the windscreen has been replaced a number of times already and the cowl retainer clip will most likely break as they try to remove it due to it's age and condition.
The glass company said that VW doesn't make the clip anymore, does anyone know where I could buy it or what the part number is so I can try and hunt it down elsewhere?
Or has anyone ever replaced the windscreen and used / done something else to hold the cowl in place?
