I'm new here, so I'm still not massively up to speed on the various different RCD units.

- Does it have Bluetooth built in? i.e. can I connect it to my iPhone to make calls if I install a microphone?
- Does it have DAB?
- I already have an MDI in the glovebox. Will it work with that?
- Is it plug and play, after entering the code, or does it need VAGCOMing into the system.

I don't have steering wheel controls, parking sensors or bluetooth, but there is the MDI in the glovebox and an Aux input near the cupholders under the AC controls.

Bluetooth isnt built in. You'll need to stick with the VW bluetooth kit the car came with or fit the proper built in bluetooth kit

Its quite possibly a DAB unit - seller will have to confirm

Yes it will

Yes it is - no programming needed

Got you.

Yes, no Bluetooth on ours ATM but might look to add it later. Hands free safety etc.

DAB sounds like a ball ache anyway - install new antenna etc.

Adding Bluetooth....

Post by perarduapropatria »

Maybe someone can answer this for me?

If I add this module:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SEAT-SKODA ... 3f4ca9792f

to the RCD510, do I then have to get someone to VAGCOM the car so it knows it has Bluetooth, or will the radio pick it up automatically? Some forums suggest that they've had airbag lights flash up once installed. Does anyone have any experience?

Also, if I have the phone plugged into the MDI - does that mean I don't need Bluetooth to access the phone function.....?

Yes itll likely need coding to get everything playing nicely.

Airbag lights shouldnt be touched by this upgrade

No, youll still need bluetooth to access the phone function.

Ok. I've got a cheapy code reader I use for the Jaguar, so hopefully I can reset anything I need to. Apparently it's not a real Jag unless there's something wrong with it...

Looks like I'll have to suck it up and buy a module. Would the one above be appropriate? I was expecting a fag-packet sized thing, but apparently they're paperback sized - or just smaller.

That's very altruistic, thanks.

Maybe someone in Leicester might help? Crate of beer?

Anyone have any experience of whether these cars pre-wired for a module under the seat?

Either that or it's stuffing it behind the dash....

There's no prewiring. You'll have to put the wiring loom into place

Might be worth getting vcds.

Looks like it's getting stuffed down the back - we've got those under-seat boxes.

This looks like a useful guide for anyone wanting to do the same thing:
