My high mileage GTI
Re: My high mileage GTI
It arrives factory primed. But indeed I need a spray can and some transparent paint.
Maybe it's a bit of a radical idea, but would it be possible to grind the sill off of the wing?

Got myself two used but perfect trims. Mine are completely dull as if they were sanded.

Also got a rustfree fender but it still needs some spot repairs to get it perfect.

Happy days
Re: My high mileage GTI
Someone can build me a cruise control for 135 pound. He installs another indicator handle, adds some wires to the ecu plug and uses vagcom to program ecu. Worth it?

Re: My high mileage GTI
I had it on mine. It's a nice to have but I used it so infrequently it wasn't ultimately worth it
Re: My high mileage GTI
Yeah that's the thing. I'm doing 50 miles a day now, but in 4 months only 30 miles. I doubt there will be moments to turn it on. Mebbe for like half a minute or so.
Re: My high mileage GTI
Tonight my starter failed on me. Not even a click. Battery full. So sounds like dead solenoid. Called someone to push start it and we drove it to a known nearby garage. Will call them tomorrow when they open. I'll use my aircooled vdub until it's fixed.
Re: My high mileage GTI
Garage found no problem, car starts perfectly.
What the ...?
So the cae has now become unreliable. Which in my case means it needs to be replaced, because I just can't have that.
There's just one thing I can do and that it is draw a power cable from the starter solenoid to a light bulb and tape it somewhere in the engine room. If starting fails , I can check whether solenoid gets juice or not.
If not, the problem could be in key switch.

Re: My high mileage GTI
I bought part nr 6N0 905 865. It's called ignition switch. I can find how-to's for the Polo 6N, but not for our 6N2. Can it be replaced without removing the steering wheel etc?

Re: My high mileage GTI
Would imagine it can. Let me dig out the manual page for you
Re: My high mileage GTI
Don't bother anymore, I got it replaced today. Two hour job. Let's hope it fixed the starting problems. Couldn't see much about the inner parts of the ignition switch, but the outside hole was quite worn out. Maybe so much that it couldn't be turned around enough anymore to make contact sometimes.

Re: My high mileage GTI
They do tend to break down over time. Alot of current, and moving parts can only move so many times
Re: My high mileage GTI
Since I need to spray paint some parts, like the front wings, I would also like to paint the gauge cap. GTIs have this glossy part on the gauge cap, but not mine because in the past the dashboard was replaced after a crash.
Can I remove just this glossy part or do I have to remove the entire cap?

The entire top has to be removed. The glossy part isn't seperate
