Its not actually true about the water pump, I know you can only replace it when you have the cambelt off but the water pumps just dont need replacing and its just a bit of a rip off. My mechanic was kind enough to say there is absolutely no reason to replace it and he took the pump back. I guess its best to get it done just for the sake of it but its probably not really needed.

Yeh of course it's not necessary, it's just a part that is prone to failure, and it's such a cheap fix you may as well get it changed at the same time as it's no extra labour.

So yesterday I started up the car only to hear a loud band and a very loud whirling sound and then a very loud ticking, all from the drivers side of the engine... guess what this could be... going to garage today...
