Stuff needed for service?

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Hey guys, got my service/MOT due in March and am just wondering if there is anything that may need done. The car will be having it's 7th birthday and is on 44.5k miles.

Here is a list of things that I've done/plan to do and dates where relevant:

Rear discs/pads ok - replaced at 37k, March 2007
Oil change ok - last done at 43k, end of 2007
Cambelt + Water Pump ok - done at 37k, March 2007
Brake fluid ok - done at 37k, March 2007
Air filter - N/A (due to BMC)
Spark plugs? - last done 22k, March 2005
Fuel filter? - last done 27k, March 2006

Other issues:
My front brakes and pads are shot and will be replaced before the service.
Need to order a new horn to pass MOT and will get them to fit it.
Also got my LUK clutch which they can fit.
Fixed my headlamp washers with a replacement fuse.

Possible problem:
I know the GTI is jerky at low speeds due to the drive by wire (or whatever its called lol), but it seems a lot jerkier at low speed than normal, could this be my HT leads?

That's everything I can think of 8)

The horn is easy to do mate. Don't pay to have it done. If you got very little mechanical experience it's easy and straight forward to do. Remove the wheel for extra room, remove the inner arch lineing which is held in with about 7 screws and the horn is behind front passenger side part of the bumper. Unscrew the horn with 10mm spanner and unplug the connection and replace it all. Jobs a good en!!

Sounds like your all set....

the plugs need changing and this may sort out your bit of a jump problem, and its always worth changing the oil. I do mine every 4K max... runs sweet as :D

As for the Fuel filter, did the first change on mine.....49K  one of those things passed over

Think I'm gonna get my fuel filter and spark plugs changed anyway. A bit of good news - some t**t pulled in front of me last night so I went to use the horn...and it worked! :D
