The GTI! - Alex's Thread - Leather :D

Post by alexperkins »

Just for those of you who dont know, I didnt convert in the end - I bought a top spec GTI :P, sold that to my brother, then bought another red GTI! Read on for the details!

Hi all

Thought Id let you in on my latest little plan (well its quite big i guess!)

Following Toms 1.8T conversion into his GTI, I am converting mine into the GTi using all the parts from his old one.

Its gonna have a few minor changes to the way it runs, such as no air con which means theres less strain on the aux drivebelt and a few other things thats GTIs dont have such as factory fit leccy windows and thatm but its all going to be installed.

Im after a GTI steering wheel, and a rear axle with disc brakes, plus front and rear strut braces, aswell as GTI projection Xenons, so if anyone has these, do let me know :)

So the conversion is due to start end of july/early august in time for ED38. Due to it being a conversion, insurance is impossible till im 19 but its all part of the fun

Keep your eyes peeled guys ... this one is gonna be special!

Cheers

Alex

What is the difference between the disk and non disk axles?...is it just a case of altering a few brackets?

Its the stub axles, but the GTi axle has a rear anti roll bar, which drum brake models dont have. Its quite an important addition to ensure i dont roll on the corners

I didn't know that about the rear anti roll bar. Look forward to seeing the progress, how soon until we get a nice update?

It will defo be faster than a normal GTI due to the weight decrease. When Phil (Deevub) took me out in his I noticed a difference, even driving it round the paths at Billing Aquadrome

We're gonna have 2 awesome build threads over the summer 8)

I think I can get a passenger xenon off a crashed GTI here in Ireland, if it's still around Alex. I can look if you want. Driver's side was destroyed.
