My flash red GTi is suffering from a bit of paint fade, worst of all on the badges where either the sun or excessive poishing seems to have turned them flash white
Has anyone had any success painting the red back in?

Re: Painting GTi badge ?
Masked properly it would probably work. It might be easier to just get a new set of self adhesive ones on eBay and swap them out given the effort required vs cost to replace
You can also do it with red vinyl

Depends on the age I think? The early ones to my knowledge had all red badges.6n2stan wrote:I thought only the 'I' was supposed to be red?

Re: Painting GTi badge ?
Mine's got an ARC engine so it's an early one, but still a W reg, the front badge is all red, the rear badge only has the red i.
What's the quality of the aftermarket badges like. Some of the ones I loooked at were just not right but the ones in the link from nats148 look pretty decent. Are the original ones just stick on too ?
Cheers

Re: Painting GTi badge ?
They've been fine for me I replaced front & rear because they'd both faded & gone crackled looking.
They just came off with some tar & glue remover and a bit of dental floss. Got rid of the rest of the sticky gunk with more tar & glue stuff and gave it a wipe with Halfords paint prep wipe before sticking the new ones on.
Took me ages to find the right ones, most were the wrong font.

Re: Painting GTi badge ?
That's what I found, but the link you gave seemed to have a badge that looked right.
If seemed that getting the old badges off without causing damage might be a bit of a challenge so I thought, what the hell, if I'm going to replace the badge, I am not going to lose anything by trying to paint it - I already had some flash red paint and a VW aerosol with the little tiny brush for touching up paint.
So here's what it looks like now. I'm happy enough, you can maybe see some brushstrokes in the photo, but they are not so apparent in real life
I did the rear as well, which was also completely red, it must be my black one with the AVY engine that has just the i coloured

The car (a rescue project) has emerged from the garage into the daylight this morning in readiness for MOT, so I thought I would show the rest of her - the wheels are poor, but the rest is ok and only 76,000 miles
