I've lost 5th gear, I first thought gear linkage which is a bit worn so tried to select 5th from under the car with the linkage removed, you can bring the clutch all the way back up and it doesn't bite. I'm thinking either gearbox is dead or just 5th. The box is an etd.
I have another gearbox but it doesn't have the lower 2 mounting bolts to attach to the engine. Will this fit? I will get the code for the box and update.

No, the GTI requires a GTI gearbox as it has different mountpoints. Completely different ratios and diff too

You are best to get the existing box rebuilt
