Slow starting on my gti

Post by Adam_plxnt »

Hi my gti has turned over really slow since ive had it, and struggles to start, its had a new starter motor and the battery has been fully charged up. Has anyone else suffered this and resolved it?

That sounds like it could be a poor earth, check the earth strap from the battery to the body and the one that comes off the front of the block if I remember right. They need to be clean and have a good connection.

Yup goes onto one of the gearbox bolts. Make sure it’s in good condition

Once it's started, get a multimeter onto the battery terminals too. You should get a reading of around 13-14 volts as opposed to 12.

It could be the battery itself that is performing poorly. Places like Halfords will do a battery health check for free this time of year as a winter prep thing.
