Correct Gearbox Oil to buy?

Post by Hayden1470 »

Hello,

Im going to do a complete gearbox drain and refill however i cant for the life of me find the correct gearbox oil to buy? whenever i search i get the same specs of 75w90 but multiple different oem codes such as VW G 052 145 A2 and VW G 060 726 A2. which one of these is correct? also apparently people prefer to go for fully synthetic?

If someone could link me to or suggest an oil i could use that meets the proper specs i'd really appreciate it. i've heard castrol 75w90 is good but expensive and i also dont know if its right for my gearbox anyway lol. Would be happy to try it if it is as i use Castrol Edge 5w40 in my engine as it meets the vw 502 00 code as specified in my handbook and it runs spot on and keeps ridiculously clean.

The cheapest oem oil i could find online is this: http://www.audipartsdirect.co.uk/produc ... _G060726A2
which meets the VW G 060 726 A2 spec number. would be great if this is the correct one as 1 - its cheaper and 2 - i have 2 gearbox's to do lol

Thanks a lot guys.

Only use genuine VW gearbox oil supplied by TPS or the dealer. Whilst other gearbox oils meet the spec they do not contain the specific additives VW uses and the gearbox oil isn’t anywhere near as good
