Re: Polo GTI R5 Return to rallying.
What, VW found some new money to restart this now that Skoda Fabia has again been given the task of proving the car!
I'm not a Skoda fan, but I can see their point when they moan about Skoda still doing all the ground work so that it becomes safe for VW to enter Polo again.
Edit:- just when Seb is leaving Ford to return to that French company!

Re: Polo GTI R5 Return to rallying.
This was a very different type of Polo WRC. Instead of a full works World Rally Car capable of dominating, the Polo GTIs that took to Spain’s Tarmac and gravel stages, driven by Eric Camilli and former world champion Petter Solberg, were built to R5 regulations and entered in the WRC2 category.
The cost-controlled and tightly restricted R5 category is designed for privateer teams, and Volkswagen Motorsport’s works entry was a one-off to showcase the new machine ahead of sales starting.

Which is exactly what Skoda has been doing with the equivalent Fabia, ie WRC2.
