4 days in and suddenly Apple CarPlay won’t connect
Got my car 5 days ago and been having problems when using Waze or playing music if I stop mid-journey and turn off ignition. Frequently find there’s no music or circular busy indicator until I unplug phone and restart car again. Phone is Iphone 7 plus.
Today after stopping at service station CarPlay won’t connect at all. Says there are two devices (iPhone and CarPlay), warns me that I can no longer use the phone with media player, displays a connecting to USB1 or USB2 depending on which I try and then says “Cannot connect”. Have tried turning console off and on, rebooting the phone, a different cable, restarting ignition. Nothing works. Anybody else hit this and is there an easy fix or do I need to book the car in with the dealer?

Re: 4 days in and suddenly Apple CarPlay won’t connect
Mine was a nightmare. The garage said the dash cam was known to interfere. Ho hum. I tried swapping the dash cam and phone cables round and that pretty much cured it. I also take care not to unplug the iPhone while connected. So I unplug it after turning the ignition off. Also the manual is dreadful, I discovered you have to unlock the iPhone before it will connect. At present it is working well.
I currently have a Citroen C3 on loan and it also has CarPlay issues, much worse ones than my Polo. Several times the sound came out of the iPhone rather than the car speakers. I was unable to solve that one, but it was fine the next time I went for a drive. The C3 infotainment system is poor compared to the Polo’s. Smaller screen, not so intuitive, less sensitive, more buggy.

Mine went through a phase of being difficult to connect, but it's been fine since.
It's an iphone 6S.

Mine is an iPhone 7. Has your car been to the dealers? Makes me wonder if there was an under the counter firmware upgrade.Andy Beats wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 9:26 am Mine went through a phase of being difficult to connect, but it's been fine since.

No, it just went from being a total pain to connect to being fine, almost overnight.
No visits to the dealer, no updates to the phone.

Mine seems to have fixed itself overnight. Very annoying. I'll keep an eye on it and follow the points made here about when I connect and disconnect.

If you use CarPlay do you still have it paired to phone via BT.

No. If you connect to CarPlay, the Bluetooth disconnects, and when you disconnect from CarPlay the Bluetooth re-pairs.andybarker27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 10:57 pm If you use CarPlay do you still have it paired to phone via BT.

Are you sure?
I can scroll between carplay and bluetooth very quickly.
I prefer the sound of music via bluetooth.

From a 'Phone' perspective, when connected to CarPlay the Bluetooth functionality is overridden by connecting to CarPlay.Andy Beats wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 9:05 am Are you sure?

If you look in iPhone settings Bluetooth goes from 'Connected' to 'Not Connected' and it's not possible to pair the phone via Bluetooth when connected via CarPlay
When I remove the cable and disconnect from CarPlay Bluetooth goes back to 'Connected' in iPhone settings.

Don't have to disconnect carplay to do it.

Re: 4 days in and suddenly Apple CarPlay won’t connect
I thought BT remained active for use by non music apps such as VW Connect.
