Mine's a bit more than that, with going for the 115PS engine, top spec, with lots of miles on the PCP

That sounds like the more basic SE or SE Technology model, which also only have a speed limiter. The FR/FR Sport get regular cruise, the Xcellence/Xcellence Lux get adaptive cruise.

I have the limiter on my 95SE and, once I got used to it, find it useful for average speed camera roadworks and so on.

It does feel odd at first, but after a while, you get used to holding the accelerator slightly less than it feels like it should be, to avoid the dead feeling.
Much better than, I assume, the adaptive cruise control on a Mercedes that I followed up the A34 last week. Bang on 70, and blithely not checking their rear view mirror to see the magnificent queue behind him/her whilst sitting in the overtaking lane.

I'm not even remotely interested in adaptive cruise.
I've seen it in practice on the latest Nissan Leaf and even on it's 'shortest' setting, it left far too big a gap to the car in front.
So other drivers were pulling into that gap and the car was braking in reaction to that.
The test drive was just a comical circle of people pulling into the gap, the car braking etc.etc.etc.

I tried the speed limiter yesterday on the M62 - quick to set at the designated variable speed limit but you do feel vulnerable with no progress beyond the set speed. I thought it was a cheap gimmick feature but seems easy to use.

You can of course press the pedal all the way down to override the limiter if need be... Does help on longer journeys too.

Cheers - didn't realise that, I thought there might be a way of quickly disabling it like with normal cruise controls rather than using the button to cancel.

Yeah, you'll get a ding and the light will flash to tell you it's overridden

I'm so disappointed that it's a speed limiter rather than cruise, kicking myself for assuming.
Was going to take my car to Glasgow next weekend, as it's considerably better on fuel than the wife's Sportage at 70mph.
My car around 48mpg, her car lucky to scrape 40mpg.
But can't stomach long distances without cruise now.

If you have a mode button next to set, its normally cruise

Albeit, its a golf manual, but same buttons

Speed limit is a standard on these now, and yes its very confusing

No mode, it's speed limiter only.
A bit like giving you headlights, but dipped beam only.

Agree - it must cost nothing to make it full cruise control - it's even standard on most Vauxhall Corsa FGS since 2011. Suppose they kept it off so more bells and whistles can be added to SEL and top spec models.

So to put the "Beats" in line with the other models, it's an "SE" with a better sound system, different materials inside with a go faster strip over the bonnet. Saying that I do like the white interior, but the red dash is just matt. I've had fitted orange dash pads to go with the outside of the car, and the dash pads are gloss. I've also had adaptive cruise control, but once I get a couple of thousand miles on the clock I'll give a detailed report on the Polo, so far so good :D
