Orange triangle exclamation mark means what?
Had a drive into some wintery weather yesterday. Temp -1c, snowing and starting to lay on the road and strong wing.
The warning sign comes on and then after 20 mins or so goes off meaning what?
I ignored it as the only other time I've had a warning was for the tyre pressure dropping (which wasn't the case) but this threw up a message in addition to the symbol. That wasn't the case yesterday
Any ideas?

Check in your owner’s manual - should be under ‘Instrument cluster -> warning and indicator lamps’.
In the manual for my previous generation Polo, when the triangle symbol with an exclamation mark is displayed, it’s to warn you that there should be additional information displayed on the instrument cluster - presumably some form of ‘be aware’ or warning message or information.

Could be the front assist not working? Happened to me yesterday driving through a blizzard. Too much ice over the sensor caused it to have a fit.

You would think (hope...) the driver is noticing the great big message that comes with the warning light.
Mine did it two nights ago and the main display had "vision impaired" on it.
I'm hoping this is a warning light only.

The car should tell you what the symbol denotes.
Yellow for advisory, red for obligatory.
Yellow oil sign = please top up at next opportunity.
Red oil sign = stop now don't drive any further, get your car repaired.

Ok it was yellow not orange! My manual page 14 says "Central Warning Lamp. Observe additional information on instrument cluster display"
Should this additional information show continually in the centre of the display (like my previous tyre warning) If so it didn't as far as I recall.

Ok, so next time you see the orange warning you need to look at the central display to see what it's warning you of.
Going by the description of the weather at the time, I'm willing to bet the radar was "impaired", just like mine the other night.
Welcome to the wonderful world of VW front assist.

That's what I wondered it was. Never had a modern car as baffling as this one.
Re: Orange triangle exclamation mark means what?
For me it was driving rain that stopped the radar from working. its the only time I have had a yellow warning triangle.
I think the little wizard or whatever lives under the bonnet that can see the car in front must have an issue in heavy rain or snow. I think its telling you the Adaptive part of cruise control is not working. Same with front assist. Obviously be careful do not rely on adaptive cruise or front assist if that warning triangle shows in heavy rain or snow .

Thanks but I don't have adaptive cruise control. Is front assist the emergency radar braking?

Re: Orange triangle exclamation mark means what?
All Polos have Front Assist. It's becoming a standard thing across most new models now, as it's needed to get a decent score on the EuroNCAP tests. Same as with the speed limiter.
My Fabia has also given a similar warning in really bad rain. Water gives quite a good return on radars, and too much water falling down infront of the sensor will confuse it, just like lots of water falling in front of your eyes mean you can't see that far either!
