That’s interesting. From your post it looks as if it’s DSG only? In the UK, when the current Polo model range was launched, VW did include a 1.5 EVO R-Line model. It had DSG transmission (no manual transmission option) but it was very quickly deleted from all brochures / price lists and the configurator on VW’s website.

As far as pricing goes for a 1.5 EVO 7 speed DSG R-Line model in the UK - there’s very little space for it to slot into the Polo model range between the 1.0 115 ps DSG R-Line model and the GTI. There’s only £860 difference in price between these two models, so if you make an allowance for the price premium VW would charge for a 1.5 EVO engined R-Line model over the 1.0 115 ps version (both with 7 speed DSG), it looks as if a 1.5 EVO R-Line model is also likely cost as much as the GTI (the ‘non-plus’ model) in the UK.

I suppose not everyone wants a GTI, so by introducing a 1.5 EVO (110 kw/150 ps) R-Line model into the range, VW would say they’re offering customers an alternative option to the GTI that offers a more powerful engine than the 1.0 115ps engine.

Configurator shows only DSG option also half of year ago I paid for access to VW erWin (service manuals etc for vw mechanics). 1.5 EVO was already there and only with DSG so probably no future plans for manual transmision. In my country difference between rline with 1.5 and gti (we don't have gti+) is less than 100 pounds.

It is good to hear that the supply problems/emissions certification and hopefully other general problems with this engine, and making it available for use in Polo, have been resolved.

The only issues remaining now could be which IC engines will continue to be available in Polo as EV versions must increasing, and VW Group are not known for having a model range in every sector that suits 100% of their potential customer base, I’d think that GTI/GTI+ will become one to solve the “price gap/clash” issue.

Annoyingly, the new Audi A1 model is available with a 1.5 engine as well as the 2.0 (+ the 1.0 engine)

Just registered to say that In Greece the 1.5 EVO is available in RLine DSG only and I drive one of those since April. If you have any questions let me know and I'll try to answer.

Gulp!

Edit:- will this not just be a replacement for the previous 1.0 engine that was in the lowest versions, I don't know anything about that one, but it might have been the same as the original UP etc 1.0 3 cylinder from years back, only now being based on the 211 family of engines?

I have the 1.5 TSI Evo DSG model Polo as well, it's about 5000€ cheaper than the GTI model.

In VW Finland's configurator its only available with DSG and Highline pack. R-line pack is optional for this combination.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

The 1.0 EVO is just the same old 1.0 non-turbo triple, but updated to pass the newer emissions regs. Nothing interesting at all.
